Upgrading the old vernacular building to contemporary norms: multiple criteria approach

AbstractSustainable development is emphasized in the process of construction or modernization of buildings at present. Old vernacular architecture does not satisfy contemporary building norms such as daylighting and/or thermal performance parameters. These parameters are important for sustainability due to their relation with energy savings. It is obvious that seeking to improve these parameters, old buildings should be upgraded. The main problem is how to reach contemporary building norms without a negative impact to architectural heritage in a process of modernisation. The aim of the research is to find the best compromise solution for effective vernacular architectures change. The Authors suggest using multiple criteria approach that enables to evaluate possible alternative solutions in several controversial aspects and to find rational buildings modernisation type. A hybrid multiple criteria evaluation method of ranking of cultural heritage structures for renovation projects

Cultural heritage item preservation, renovation and adaptation to the social needs of people, as well as their passing from generation to generation, is a problem relevant from economic, historical, archeological, religious, technological, research and other perspectives. They are typical strategic multi-criteria decision-making problems. The state institutions and the owners and managers of the heritage items invest in their preservation. In fact, every country has a great number of the registered heritage structures. To ensure their effective management and renovation, a lot of implementation projects and strategies should be developed and evaluated. This work requires large investments and time. The paper presents a hybrid model developed for ranking the heritage buildings intended for renovation according to their value. The model for problem solution based on integrated using two MCDM methods Analytic Hierarchy Process and EDAS. A set of the criteria for evaluating the projects, concerning the renovation of cultural heritage items defined.

Estimation of external walls decisions of multistorey residential buildings applying methods of multicriteria analysis

Abstract This paper analyses the most widespread designs of external walls of the multi‐storey residential buildings now in use. Such 49 alternative designs of external walls of multi‐storey residential buildings are analyzed using multicriteria analysis program under uncertainty. Few ways of the decision are applied for the decision of the problem: the method of distance to an ideal point, Bayes rule and Walds rule. To project and understand effective construction of a building, it is necessary to execute exhaustive analysis of all decisions (planimetric, prolongation of term and quality of buildings operation, improvement of architectural decisions, etc.). Inžineriniu ir statybos projektavimo sprendimu verbaline analize

Santrauka Darbo tikslas ‐ isanalizuoti statybos rangos projektu bei sutarciu valdyma ir nustatyti statybos sutarciu efektyvuma taikant verbaline sistema. Statybos rangovai dažnai susiduria su sudetinga situacija dirbdami neapibrežtoje statybos aplinkoje. Vienas potencialiu rizikos veiksniu‐ sutartiniai reikalavimai bendrose sutarciu salygose. Straipsnyje nagrinejamas kiekybinis metodas vertinant pagrindines statybos sutarties salygas. Svarbus statybos rangos aspektas ‐projektu bei sandoriu valdymas. Atsiranda vis didejantis vadybos modeliu poreikis, kuris padetu projektu vadovams susitvarkyti su dideliais ir sudetingais projektais. Verbal analysis of contracts of engineering and design of buildings

Summary As Lithuania became a member of the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) in 2004 it is obvious that engineering consultancy activity will grow in the country in the nearest future. The constructural contracts which meet the interests of all the sides involved is the core element of every successful constructural project. That is why the advise how to sign an accurate and effective contract is of great importance. International construction contractors are often faced with the situation of working in unfamiliar construction environment. One potential source of risk is the contractual requirements embodied in the general conditions of contracts.Authors aim to analize constructural contracts used by FIDIC members and define the effectiveness of the contracts using the method of verbal analysis.
