MIMO approach to implementation of radar tomography is described and preliminary results of its experimental validation using Ka-band noise waveform ground based SAR are presented. MIMO concept with time-division to of Tx/Rx channels is applied to emulate 2D aperture synthesis combined with range resolution due to wideband random signals. Two linear synthetic apertures have been used for transmit and receive antennas oriented in vertical and horizontal directions, respectively. Range resolution in radar tomography is determined by power spectrum width of the transmitted signal, while its cross-range resolution is defined by 2D aperture dimensions. This enabled generation of 3D coherent radar images in radar tomography mode.

Ka-band radiometric imaging using antennas with pattern synthesis

Konstantin Lukin; Volodymyr V. Kudriashov; Pavlo Vyplavin; Sergii Lukin; Volodymyr P. Palamarchuk

The paper is devoted to experimental investigation of coherent radiometric imaging in azimuth-range plane. The Ka-band radar system suggested is a version of bistatic noise waveform SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) using two antennas with pattern synthesis and additional receive channel used as a reference signal. Indoor radiometric imaging has been validated using absorbers as the targets. These experiments enabled to estimate both range and angular resolution capabilities of a new radiometric system that was achieved due to application antennas with pattern synthesis and SAR signal processing. This estimate may be done within the range span limited by bistatic radiometer baseline.

Application of arbitrary waveform generator for noise radar

Konstantin A. Lukin; Oleg Zemlyaniy; Pavlo Vyplavin; Volodymyr P. Palamarchuk

The approach, when the waveforms of different types are exploited in the same radar (waveform diversity) requires new-generation sources of initial signals. For generating of different types of waveforms in the same radar we suggest using Arbitrary Waveform Generator, that allows output any type of pre-programmed signal in real time. We have carried out preliminary experimental tests of the stepped-delay mode of UHF-band radar evaluation kit. The series of experimental testing shows efficiency AWG application in radar with variety of sounding waveforms.
