アルカリハライドの蒸着面を, 電子ビームで照射すると, F中心と称する光吸収帯が生ずる.この性質は, 情報を蓄積するための一手段となる.アルカリハライドとして, KCIおよびNaClを用いたときの, F中心の生成感度, 保持および消去特性について調べ, KC1蒸着面をスクリーンとした蓄積管を試作した.これらから, アルカリハライド蒸着面は, 高密度な蓄積, あるいは低速走査による蓄積に対して有用であるとの見通しを得た.
