The Straits of Malacca and Singapore are national asset to the strait states (Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore). Strategically, economically and environmentally significant, the strait states must be proactive in protecting and preserving the Straits. In June 2005, e-navigation system, known as Marine Electronic Highway (MEH) has been started to be implemented in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore. Its main purpose is to reduce the number of accidents of ships and to promote marine environmental protection along the waterway. The purpose of this paper is to assess the implementation and challenges of MEH. The finding reveals that combining MEH and traditional navigation aids is the best approach to reduce accidents and marine pollution in the Straits.

The purpose of this study is to determine and examine Internet marketing strategies that can be implemented by medical doctors/practitioners in Malaysia. Despite the increasing importance among many organizations of the Internet as a marketing tool, few studies have been conducted to examine the potential of the Internet as a marketing platform for medical doctors in the Malaysian context. The results reveal that compared to offline advertising, Internet marketing is a better mechanism and an important strategy for medical doctors. In this work, the advantages of using Internet marketing are highlighted, and implications for marketing strategy are demonstrated. We believe that Internet marketing can help Malaysian doctors improve their customer service and performance.

This paper analyses the importance of embedding the importance of commercialisation of University’s research in the Engineering education in Malaysia. By conducting courses or program about this commercialization aspects by the engineering faculty, the commercialization process for the university will be sustained in future. The literature so far reviewed shows that engineering education processes have been extensively studied to study the best mechanism and model for engineering education in Malaysia. Aiming to contribute to such literature, we look at the current practice of Engineering Faculties under the Malaysian Research Universities in order to see to what extent aspects of commercialization of university’s research are incorporated in their syllabus. We found that the aspect of the commercialization of university‘s innovation are less exposed to engineering students in Malaysia. This paper suggests that it is vital to incorporate the commercialization of university’s research aspects into the engineering syllabus to develop the culture of entrepreneurship among engineering students which eventually assists the university to commercialize its’research.

This article seeks to determine whether a mandatory labelling system of genetically modified (GM) food is justified or misconceived and therefore whether legal transformations are necessary. Although numerous benefits have been attributed to GM foods, they pose serious hazards to humans, animals, plants, and the environment. Much of the argument made in favour of GM foods and against their mandatory labelling proves to be economically oriented and fails to engage objectively with the threatened hazards from such foods. The article illustrates our argument with reference to Malaysia, the European Union, the United States, and Canada.

This article discusses two main issues on integrated electronic land administrative system (e-Tanah) in Malaysia. As an integrated electronic processing of applications on land matters, registration of titles, documents required to be prepared thereby and any documents of titles through the use of a computer which includes both manual and computerised procedures, e-Tanah must be supported by legal provision and administrative mechanism. First, from the legal point of view, e-Tanah is clearly endorsed by the main statute on land matters, i.e. the National Land Code 1965. Second, administratively, e-Tanah is also properly managed.

Collaboration between Malaysian industry and local university is still very low, having in mind that Malaysia is striving to boost up her economy through knowledge economy. University which is considered as hub of excellence and generation of new knowledge should be a perfect place for the industry to develop new technology and upgrade their existence technology. However, there seems to be some drawback that disheartened the industry to further proceed with collaboration with local university. One of the shortcomings could be resulted from the low level of intellectual property awareness among the engineers and scientist at the university.
