Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the effectiveness of a specific library portal at the University of Technology MARA based on the opinions of students in the Faculty of Information Management.Design/methodology/approach – The paper is survey based; 400 self‐administered questionnaires were sent out to students of Faculty of Information Management, University of Technology MARA.Findings – In terms of information quality assessment, respondents had indicated that the library portal met their expectations. All the information quality attributes, namely completeness, comprehensiveness, accuracy, timeliness, reliability and appropriateness of format were rated highly by users. Equally important to information quality is systems quality and service quality. When asked to evaluate the systems quality aspect of the library portal, respondents have also rated highly.Research limitations/implications – The paper utilizes effective existing methods to determine portal effectiveness. It provides a st...

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to attempt to establish a framework for managing trusted records in the electronic environment.Design/methodology/approach – The study collates the criteria required to manage trusted electronic records through the available literature and best practice and tests these on experts through an opinion survey. The study was done via email inviting 40 selected experts (18 participated), known in the fields of records and archives management all over the world, to respond to a structured framework of managing electronic records.Findings – The findings indicate that the experts are unanimously agreed that the five main contexts, namely governance, recordkeeping, archival, technological, skills and competency, serve as an audit list providing the trusted environment for managing records in the electronic environment.Research limitations/implications – The collation of the criteria for trusted electronic records management, based on available literature and best practice in t...

Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) models have demonstrated the influencing factors of information systems by using behavioral intention as one of the aspect to measure the use of information systems. In line with that, this approach is also supported by updated DeLone & McLean information success model by adding the intention to use variable in their famous Information Systems Success Model as a predecessor variable in order to measure the use of information systems. However, in the context of behavioral intention or intention to use, there has been very little effort to investigate the influences of individual differences towards intention to use information systems. This is true in the context of digital library in Malaysia specifically and in the developing countries, generally. This paper investigates the influences of age, gender, race, mode of study, universities and academic structure differences towards intention to use digital library (IUDL) by Malaysian postgraduate students who are in Malaysian research intensive universities. The result shows there is evidence of a significant difference in meanscore intention to use digital library (IUDL) between Malay and Chinese and between Chinese and Other races. However, there is no evidence of a significant difference in meanscore intention to use digital library (IUDL) between mode of studies, universities and academic programs. These results provided a proof to confirm the race difference is influencing factor in measuring the intention to use digital library while mode of study, universities and academic structure differences are does not a matter in measuring the intention to use digital library. Furthermore, this paper provides some suggestion in order to minimize the differences intention to use digital library among users.

This research examines the Information Behavior of Managers (IBM) and Strategic Information Use (SIU) in Malaysian industries. A total of 491 were involved in the study and results indicated that the IBM significantly influenced the strategic use of information in Malaysian industries. The results also showed that there were differences of IBM among industries in Malaysia. The findings of this study create awareness to the Malaysian industries on the importance of IBM. This study is perhaps one of the first to address IBM in the context of Malaysian industries.

Currently, users are already relying on the availability of digital libraries for their information needs to support their daily tasks. One of the most important aspects of the digital library in the university environment is its information quality services to the university community, particularly by students. Therefore, it is crucial to investigate and understand how users perceived information quality in digital library environment. With this knowledge, better library and information services can be offered to the users at large. Samples comprised 534 respondents from four Malaysian intensive research universities and were obtained through questionnaire. This study investigated how user perceived information quality in digital library environment. For analysis of differences, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was employed to determine differences between demographics factors and Information Quality variable. The results show that 81.7 % of the respondents said they consider the digital information resources they retrieved from the digital library to be reliable enough to be used for their work. On average, about 81 % agreed that the digital information resources they retrieved are related and correct enough to be used for their work. About 70 % agreed that digital information resources retrieved are accurate, interpretable, comprehensive, dependable, complete, and sufficient for their needs for their study and/or research. The result of Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) shows there is no evidence of a significant difference in mean scores for information quality between age groups (p = 0.089) universities (p = 0.428) and academic programs, with p-values greater than 0.05. On the other hand, there is evidence of significant differences in mean score for information quality for the race category.
