An exploratory study on systems development methodologies for web‐based applications

Purpose – The purpose of the paper is to investigate the status of systems development methodologies (SDM) usage for developing web‐based application in Malaysian organizations. In addition, it also seeks to investigate the use of techniques and tools for web‐based application development.Design/methodology/approach – The study employed the use of a cross‐sectional survey method with 200 questionnaires sent to information systems managers. A total of 66 usable questionnaires were returned.Findings – The use of SDM that are meant for web‐based applications is still very low among Malaysian organizations. The majority of respondents indicated that the SDM being used were adapted on a project basis. Malaysian systems developers were more inclined to use techniques that were much suited for traditional applications. Nevertheless, the use of systems development tools was quite overwhelming. Information Behavior of Managers (IBM) and Strategic Information Use (SIU) in Malaysian Industries

This research examines the Information Behavior of Managers (IBM) and Strategic Information Use (SIU) in Malaysian industries. A total of 491 were involved in the study and results indicated that the IBM significantly influenced the strategic use of information in Malaysian industries. The results also showed that there were differences of IBM among industries in Malaysia. The findings of this study create awareness to the Malaysian industries on the importance of IBM. This study is perhaps one of the first to address IBM in the context of Malaysian industries.

The importance of information management undeniable .At the individual level, especially students, can help individuals plan a strategy to get the knowledge and skills to enhance career r is different from the nature of the university. Many new skills and knowledge that should be learned by every human being. Therefore, information management skills are very important to master the latest skills. At the organizational level, knowledge management can also help organizations to improve the effectiveness of efficiency, improve communication between students and teachers and improve the synergy between the employee and allow learning to be more effective and efficient (Beijerse 1999).Malaysian politics have been dominated by the United Malay National Organization (UMNO), which was formed to represent and protect the rights of Malaysia’s indigenous Malay community. Together with its junior coalition partners, MCA (the Malaysian Chinese Association) and MIC (the Malaysian Indian Congress), UMNO-led coalitions, known as the Alliance until 1973 and BN since then, have never held fewer than 60% of parliamentary seats. The image of UMNO had badly tarnished since 2008 during the result of 12th general election (GE12) on 8 March 2008 when the four states Penang, Selangor, Kedah and Kelantan loses to the opposition and lost the two-third majority in the parliament. This drastic image tarnished continue increase in 13th General Election (GE 13) on 5 May 2013 when UMNO, the core party of BN lost by popular vote to the opposition parties. The results of the 13th general election marked a political phenomenon which saw BN lead by UMNO losing victory while the PR won in defeat. This study aims to understand the application of Image Repair Theory to the image of UMNO as proposed by Malaysian political scholars.

Information ethics, as is prominent, has arrived as a liberated area of ethical and philosophical inquiry. There are few number of academic journals that are devoted fully to the numerous ethical issues that emerge relating with the new information communication technologies such as the issues include information privacy, safety issues of concern to librarians , a host of intellectual property, and other information professionals. Furthermore, there are also a number of yearly dominant international conferences committed to information ethics. It would barely be hyperbolic the thing to make declaration that information ethics is as “hot” a field of theoretical inquiry as medical ethics.The objective of this paper was to analyze the issues of information quality and to determine the best criteria of information quality in financial institutions. The implications of bad quality information will also be described in order to know how it will cause critical financial problem for industries.

Factors influencing the use of social media in adult learning experience

The uses of social media are very popular nowadays as a platform of informations exchanges among the users. It has been used to support e-learning, where lecturers uploading lecture notes and tutorial videos on a group page that joined by their students. For young generations, this is something that they expect from their lecturer. However it is different with adult learner who are not all used to today’s technologies. This paper study the factors of that influenced the use of social media in adult learning. By understanding the factors, practitioners can used it as a basis to build a more specific social media tools that is intended for adult learner. To understand the factors, a survey has been distributed to a group of postgraduate students, and the data is analyzed by using IBM SPSS 2.0. The research suggested that technology acceptance factor as most dominant factor among the others that influenced the use of social media in adult learning. The results of study also suggested there is significant relationship of all factors specified.
