This article presents the results of a research aimed at mapping the mental care services provided in a Primary Care Unit in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The study is based on the premise that today Primary Care can contribute to a change in the mental care model in Brazil. The practices used by the professionals of the units for dealing with problems classified as mental problems are analyzed from the perspective of concepts such as patient-centered care, listening and integrality. The study is based on participant observation, semi-structured interviews with professionals working in a Health Unit and in a Family Health Program besides information collected from medical records using a tool especially conceived for this purpose. The results of this study show that in the mental care actions offered in primary care, the biomedical model, psychiatrization of mental care and bureaucratization of the work process restricting the actions to the Unit are still prevailing.

Este estudo de caso com abordagem qualitativa teve como objetivo central analisar a pratica da massagem ofertada pelo Programa de Medicina Alternativa do municipio do Rio de Janeiro. Limita-se a area programatica 3.1 (zona da Leopoldina), onde o programa foi implantado e a pratica vem sendo realizada em quatro servicos de complexidade distinta. Por meio da observacao participante, de entrevistas, e da analise das fichas dos usuarios, verificamos as modalidades e os conhecimentos utilizados para esta pratica, o perfil dos profissionais e dos usuarios, e ainda, os motivos ou indicacoes. Os resultados revelaram que a massagem, fundamentada no paradigma vitalista, tem sido captada pela racionalidade biomedica, mas os beneficios relatados pelos usuarios sao expressivos; ha expansao e diversificacao da demanda e dos motivos e ou encaminhamentos. Acreditamos que esta pratica pode ser, de fato, uma alternativa de atendimento e melhoria da assistencia no SUS.

The study points out the main characteristics of the nursing labor market in the Brazilian South-East, using Medical-Sanitary Assistance-AMS research data as a reference base, which were recently published by the Brazilian Institute of National Statistics and Geography-IBGE. With 272398 jobs in this region, the nursing team mainly works in the public health system and hospital institutions. In coherence with the Brazilian health system decentralization policies, the municipalization of nursing jobs and signs of labor market flexibility were observed in 1999. In view of this national and regional context, a research should be carried to obtain a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the current labor market for the nursing team.El estudio senala las caracteristicas principales del mercado del trabajo en enfermeria en la region sureste, usando como referencia los datos publicados recientemente por la Investigacion de la Asistencia Medico- Sanitaria-AMS desarrollada por el Instituto Brasileno de Geografia y Estadistica-IBGE. El equipo de enfermeria tiene 272.398 puestos de trabajo en el sistema publico de salud, sobre todo en hospitales. Consonante con la politica brasilena de descentralizacion en salud, se observa en 1999, la municipalizacion de los puestos de enfermeria y mayor flexibilidad de este mercado del trabajo. De acuerdo con el contexto nacional y regional, se aconseja la aplicacion de una investigacion para analizar, cuantitativamente y cualitativamente, el actual mercado del trabajo de enfermeria.

The present study focuses the medicine and nursing graduation system, considering the period 1995 - 2003. It presents the main characteristics of these graduations in Brazil - offer of courses, vacancies and amount of egresses according to the administrative dependence of the institutions (public, private) and their geographic distribution - based on data provided by the National Institute of Studies and Educational Research Anisio Teixeira (Inep) of the Ministry of Education. The results obtained in this study point to distortions in the configuration of these graduations and can aid the managing authorities of the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) in the formulation and implementation of a human resources policy consistent with the principles and guidelines of the system and engaged in graduating not only technically competent professionals but professionals committed to the solution of the health demands and needs of the population.

The present study shows the dynamics of employment for the nursing profession in Brazil from 1970 up to 1990. It outlines the main characteristics and trends of this labor market before and after the implantation of the Sistema Unico de Saude-SUS (Federal Health Care System). The main source of information for this investigation was data published in the research Medical-Sanitary Assistance carried out by IBGE (Brazilian Geography and Statistics Institute).

With the new Nursing Legislation and the COFEN Resolution no 111 of 1989 the basic nursing activities developed by non-qualified workers are only allowed until June 26, 1966 through permission granted by the CORENs. Assuming that nursing entities must be part of the professionalization process, the objective of this study is to know a few characteristics at elementary level and point to a demand classification for the professional qualification of these workers in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Data found in this study refer to the period 1988 to April 1991 and have been collected in the COREN-RJ through 4535 processes for obtaining permission. The results show a significant diversity of this profile according to healt facilities and geographic areas

RESUMO O estudo quantitativo e descritivo objetivou analisar a trajetoria das catorze graduacoes em saude, apontar a ociosidade de vagas e identificar a presenca e a dimensao da educacao a distância. A partir dos Censos da Educacao Superior, os cursos em 1995, 2004 e 2015, as vagas e os concluintes de 1995 a 2015, as relacoes vagas x ingressos e ingressos x concluintes constituiram as variaveis e os indicadores de analise. Foram observadas grande expansao, iniquidade geografica e privatizacao da formacao, significativa ociosidade de vagas e inadequada oferta de formacao a distância. Conclui-se que constitui agenda prioritaria o ordenamento de recursos humanos em saude coerente com as diretrizes e os principios do Sistema Unico de Saude (SUS).
