Efeito do substrato e da temperatura na germinação de sementes de cataia (Drimys brasiliensis miers. winteraceae)

The aim of this research was to evaluate cataia (Drimys brasiliensis Miers. - Winteraceae) seed germination under different, temperatures, substrate and stratification times. Seeds were submitted to stratification method in green house, without controlled temperature, during 30, 60 and 90 days. Filter paper, sand, vermiculite and agar 1% were tested as substrates. Were compared constant temperatures of 17, 25 and 30oC under light, and alternate temperatures treatments of 20-30oC, adopting 20oC for 16 hours in absence of light and 30oC for 8 hours exposed to light. IVG (Germination Speed Index) was obtained additionally as a vigor test, by counting normal seedlings everyday after sowing. Cataia seeds showed 7% of moisture content (wet basis) at the beginning of the experiment. After 30, 60 and 90 days of sand stratification, these seeds presented 11,3%, 27,7% and 46,2% of moisture content, respectively. Treatments with 30 and 60 days of sand stratification at 17oC obtained the highest germination percentage, of 67% and 52%, respectively. The highest percentage of germination was obtained after 30 days of sand stratification corresponding to 68% for substrates like agar, sand and filter paper, and 61% for vermiculite. For the treatment with 60 days of sand stratification, the highest germination percentages were 56%, 58% and 54% in agar, sand and filter paper, respectively, without statistic difference. The vigor seeds (IVG) were those that were sand stratified for 60 days and were transferred to agar, sand and filter paper to germinate, at 17oC, presenting germination rate of 0,55, 0,61 and 0,65. It was possible to conclude that 60 days of sand stratification is an efficient method to broken cataia seed dormancy. The higher rate an percentage of germination were obtained at constant temperature of 17oC with agar, sand and filter paper as substrates.

Germinação de sementes de Blepharocalyx salicifolius (H.B.K.) Berg. em diferentes substratos e condições de temperaturas, luz e umidade

O objetivo deste trabalho foi verificar a influencia de diferentes temperaturas (20oC, 25oC, 30oC e 35oC), substratos (rolo de papel, papel-toalha, areia e vermiculita), condicoes de luz (ausencia e presenca) e umidade (substratos pouco umido, umido, muito umido e encharcado) sobre a germinacao de sementes de Blepharocalyx salicifolius. Os melhores resultados sao obtidos com os substratos papel toalha, vermiculita e areia, nas temperaturas 20oC e 25oC, e com o substrato rolo de papel na temperatura 30oC. As sementes germinam tanto na presenca como na ausencia de luz, bem como em substrato umido, muito umido e encharcado, nas temperaturas 20oC e 25oC.

Influência da temperatura na germinação de diásporos de Ocotea odorifera (Vellozo) Rohwer (canela-sassafrás).

The experiment was developed at the Seed Laboratory of Forestry Sciences Department of Federal University of Parana – UFPR, in order to determinate the effect of the temperature: 20, 25 and 30 o C, and the remotion of the outer coat (endocarp and tegument) on seeds germination the Ocotea odorifera (Vel.) Rohwer. The diaspores were collected at Fazenda Rio Grande, Parana State, in a remaining Ombrophylous Mixed Forest. It was adopted the entirely randomized statistical model, The diaspores without outer coat presented a higher germination percentage and germination speed.

Caracterização morfolóica de frutos e sementes de cataia (Drimys brasiliensis Miers. - Winteraceae)

The aim of this research was to characterize morphologically internal and external structures of Drimys brasiliensis Miers fruits and seeds. In order to describe the fruits, internal and external details related to texture, consistency, pilosity, brightness, shape and number of seeds per fruit were observed. Shedding was observed as well. Some external aspects of the seeds were analyzed including size, color, texture, consistency, shape, hilum and micropyle position. The following internal characteristics were observed the presence or absence of endosperm and cotyledon, embryo axes and plumule type, shape and color. The heart, torpedo and mature stages were identified during embryo development. The fruits of D. brasiliensis are multiple, free, constituted by five little fruits, indehiscence and polispermic. The seeds are kedney form and they have great amount of endosperm, and they present dormancy for embryonic immaturity.

EFEITO DO ESTRESSE HÍDRICO SIMULADO COM NACL, MANITOL E PEG (6000) NA GERMINAÇÃO DE SEMENTES DE Erythrina falcata Benth

A especie Erythrina falcata Benth. (Fabaceae) e usada em sistemas agroflorestais, na restauracao de florestas de mata ciliar, em locais sujeitos a inundacao e na recuperacao de ecossistemas degradados. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os possiveis efeitos do estresse hidrico na germinacao de sementes de Erythrina falcata. O experimento foi realizado no Laboratorio de Sementes Florestais da Universidade Federal do Parana (UFPR) Parana, Brasil. As unidades experimentais consistiram em caixas do tipo gerbox, contendo duas folhas de papel filtro e 25 sementes por caixa. As folhas foi acrescido de 10 ml de cada solucao osmotica. As caixas foram vedadas com parafilme e colocadas em câmaras de germinacao do tipo Mangelsdorf, sob luz continua a temperatura de 25±2 oC. Testaram-se os seguintes potenciais osmoticos: 0.0; -0,2; -0,4; -0,6; -0,8 e -1,0 MPa para NaCl, manitol e PEG (6000). As sementes foram transferidas a cada dois dias para os mesmos potenciais osmoticos. A menor tolerância ao estresse hidrico foi observada simulando-o com PEG 6000. O limite para germinacao esta entre -0,2 e -0,4 MPa de PEG, enquanto que os potenciais osmoticos testados com NaCl e manitol nao influenciaram o processo germinativo.

Morphological characterization of the fruit, the seed and seedling development of Blepharocalyx salicifolius (HBK) Berg. and Myrceugenia gertii Landrum - Myrtaceae

O objetivo neste trabalho foi caracterizar morfologicamente os frutos, as sementes e o desenvolvimento da plântula de Blepharocalyx salicifolius e Myrceugenia gertii. Para descrever os frutos e sementes foram utilizadas 100 unidades e para a descricao do desenvolvimento da plântula foram colocadas para germinar 100 sementes em substrato papel toalha, a temperatura de 25 oC e 50 sementes em substrato vermiculita. Os frutos de B. salicifolius e M. gertii sao carnosos e indeiscentes do tipo bacoide. As sementes de B. salicifolius possuem forma de espiral, coloracao castanha semitransparente, nao possuem endosperma e o embriao e do tipo pimentoide. As sementes de M. gertii sao ovaladas, de coloracao castanha semitransparente, comprimidas lateralmente, o endosperma e mucilaginoso e o embriao e do tipo mircioide. A germinacao de ambas e epigea fanerocotiledonar.

MINIESTAQUIA DE Sapium glandulatum (Vell.) PAX COM O USO DE ÁCIDO INDOL BUTÍRICO E ÁCIDO NAFTALENO ACÉTICO

Sapium glandulatum (Vell.) Pax (Euphorbiaceae) is a native and rustic tree found in different Brazilian plant formations, and is much indicated for recovery of degraded ecosystems. However, the sexual propagation is very difficult because almost every flower is male, the seed production is poor and the percentage of seed germination is low. The mini-cuttings technique is an alternative to other methods of propagation that allow the rooting with young material. Thus, the present work aimed to test the sprouts production and rooting by mini-cuttings of Sapium glandulatum (Vell.) Pax originating from young seedlings, collected in four seasons (autumn, winter, spring 2006 and summer 2007), in Colombo - PR, Brazil. The mini-cuttings were trimmed to 3 cm in length, with two half leafs in apical region. Indolebutyric acid (IBA) and naphtalene acetic acid (NAA) were applied in the base of the mini-cuttings at 0, 2000, 4000, 6000 and 8000 mgL -1 for 10 seconds. The percentage of rooted mini-cuttings, amount and root length, percentage of mini-cuttings with callus, survival and mortality rate were evaluated in a experimental random delineation, with factorial range of the treatments: 2x5x4 (kinds of plant growth regulator x concentration of plant growth regulator x seasons). The mini-cuttings p production/mini-tumps range between 1.4 until 2.2 in 205 cm³ recipient. The best season for rooting was winter, with 80.56% of rooting when the vegetal regulator was not used. It is concluded from this study that the vegetative propagation of Sapium glandulatum (Vell.) Pax by mini-cuttings collected from young seedlings can be used for rooting.

Frugivoria de morcegos (Mammalia, Chiroptera) em Cecropia pachystachya (Urticaceae) e seus efeitos na germinação das sementes

AbSTrACT Frugivorous bats are fundamental components in the maintenance and regeneration of tropical forests since they promote the mobility of the fruit seeds. There are controversies about the effects of the seed passage through the bat gut in the germination tax and speed. The goal of this work was to investigate the diet of frugivorous bat species at Estacao Experimental de Itirapina to find out which species significantly use the fruits of the pioneer plants species Cecropia pachystachya. It was tested the importance of bats on the spread and germination of seeds from this plant species. For that, the bats were captured in the period from August 2005 to July 2006, their feces were collected and the seeds of C. pachystachya separated. The germination tests were made for two bat species, Artibeus liuratus and Platyrrhinus lineatus, and were compared with seeds collected directly from the plant (control). Five repetitions were made with 30 seeds in each gerbox for each test. The tests were conducted in “Mangelsdorf” germinators chambers, with temperature of 25°C, luminosity and constant humidity for 40 days. There was a high germination percentage of the seeds found in

Propriedades físicas e químicas de substratos renováveis

RESUMO – A necessidade premente de aumento no numero de mudas plantadas anualmente, bem como a crescente diminuicao na disponibilidade de materias-primas tradicionais para composicao de substratos, tem levado a necessidade do desenvolvimento de estudos que visam a avaliacao e disponibilizacao de novos materiais para sua composicao tecnica e economicamente eficientes. Em vista disso, este estudo objetivou analisar as propriedades fisicas e quimicas de substratos formulados com base em materiais renovaveis e de grande disponibilidade (fibra de coco, casca de arroz carbonizada em diferentes granulometrias, biossolido e casca de pinus semidecomposta), bem como suas intercorrelacoes. Para tanto, foram formulados 41 substratos, os quais tiveram suas propriedades fisicas e quimicas avaliadas. Com base nos resultados, pode-se concluir que, pelas suas propriedades fisicas e quimicas, uma serie de materiais renovaveis e, ou, residuos agroindustriais e humanos se adequam para serem utilizados como componentes na formulacao de substratos para producao de mudas florestais, embora os conteudos de alguns nutrientes em determinados substratos devam ser ajustados via adubacao de base. Em vista do fato de as propriedades fisicas serem mais decisivas na escolha de determinada formulacao de substrato, entre os componentes e misturas avaliadas se pode concluir que os substratos formulados a base de fibra de coco e casca de arroz carbonizada se mostraram mais adequados. Fruit and seed morphology and morpho-anatomy of seedlings of Vitex megapotamica (Spreng.) Moldenke (Lamiaceae)

Vitex megapotamica (taruma) e especie arborea, decidua, com ocorrencia, no Brasil, desde Minas Gerais ate o Rio Grande do Sul. Visando a caracterizacao morfologica do fruto, da semente e morfo-anatomica da plântula, frutos desta especie foram coletados e as sementes postas para germinar em laboratorio. As plântulas foram coletadas desde a protrusao da raiz ate o desenvolvimento do primeiro par de eofilo. Foram realizadas medicoes e pesagem de frutos, e contagem do numero de sementes por frutos. As caracteristicas morfologicas do fruto e da semente sao aqui descritas e ilustradas, assim como a morfo-anatomia da plântula. O fruto e drupoide, nuculânio, tetralocular, contendo apenas uma ou duas sementes com fina camada de endosperma e embriao axial, foliaceo. O diasporo (pirenio) e constituido pelo endocarpo mais a semente. O endocarpo lenhoso parece exercer restricao sobre a germinacao das sementes desta especie. A plântula e epigea, fanerocotiledonar, com paracotiledones elipticos, com margem inteira, e eofilos opostos, simples, elipticos, com margem serreada, apresentando tricomas tectores. Tanto o paracotiledone quanto o eofilo apresentam mesofilo heterogeneo, dorsiventral, feixe colateral em forma de arco e estomatos anomociticos. A raiz e poliarca, com cortex parenquimatico; o hipocotilo possui tricomas glandulares e nao-glandulares, colo distinto, e com cerca de 20 dias encontra-se em inicio de crescimento secundario. Diversas das caracteristicas da plântula de Vitex megapotamica estao relacionadas a sua condicao de especie heliofila.
