The shell and tube of heat exchanger is a medium where heat transfer process occurred. The accuracy of the heat exchanger depends on the performance of both elements. Therefore, both components need to be controlled in order to achieve a substantial result in the process. For this purpose, the actual dynamics of both shell and tube of the heat exchanger is crucial. This paper discusses two methods used in deriving the mathematical modeling of the system. First, physical dynamic modeling is obtained using physics and dynamics laws where actual parameters of the shell and tube are considered. Secondly, the model is determined by applying non-parametric system identification based on experimental response on the heat exchanger. Two models are used to design the shell and tube intelligent control. The intelligent control type is a Fuzzy Proportional Derivative (FPD) control. The experiment results shows that the shell and tube heat exchanger model develop using its physical parameters and controlled with FPD controller give better response, it means it can used as a model and controller of the shell and tube heat exchanger.

Nowadays, transportation users have increased drastically since 2006 compared to 2001. The increase in some ways has contributed many traffic problems such as traffic jam and accidents. Therefore, some kind of system such as an enhanced tool is needed to reduce such problems by designing a digital distance monitoring system. The main orientation of this paper is specifically focused on the accident. The development of the tool could help driver get a sense of how far the car is from an object either it is in front or behind the car. The ultrasonic sensor is located in front of the car in order to detect the object. Then, the signal is sent to the microcontroller which has been programmed using MPLAB software. The microcontroller analyses the signal, sends the command and measure the distant of the object from the vehicle within the specific range of detection in between 1 meter to 5 meters. The data is displayed on the seven segment display. The implementation can provide a new alternative in the safety system and could reduce car accident.

Automated monitoring systems are becoming trends, creating easier method to identify item, tracking, monitoring and add on security values. In places where there are lots of items accessed by many users, the tendency of loss is high due to weakness in items monitoring. Here, we briefly describe our research on the university’s laboratory perspectives. The main aim of the research is to work out a generic approach of monitoring items in a place with several rooms. For example, there are laboratories with expensive equipments are available in a university to support teaching and learning session. Conventional approach of checking items for every session is difficult for lab administrator as most libraries are being used by more than 20 students per session. These leads to a challenge for lab administrator to monitor the flow of these items are always in place. Currently, the monitoring of laboratory equipments is performed manually by the lab administrator during each laboratory sessions. For every loan of equipment, a log book needs to be filled up in order to keep track the transaction information. This system was found to have a lot of weaknesses such as misuse of the equipment log records, losses of equipment, no in-out transaction record and misplace of equipments. To automate the process, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is identified as one of the most practical and applicable in real time implementation in-line with the nature where most of the systems are made computerized. In this paper, a solution has been provided for the problem encountered in laboratory equipment monitoring system using RFID technology. Therefore RFID-based monitoring system has been designed and developed to solve the problem associated with the handling of laboratory equipments. This chapter is organised as follows. Section 2 describes related works on RFID-based monitoring system. The architecture of the system is mentioned in section 3. Application scenario and the implementation are briefly explained in section 4 and 5 respectively. Finally, the chapter is concluded in Chapter 6.

Ayob Johari; Mohd Helmy; Abd Wahab; M. Erdi Ayob; M. Izwan Ayob; Noraihan Isa; M. Afif Ayob

Filters are two port networks used to control the frequency response in an RF or microwave system by allowing transmission at frequencies within the passband, and attenuation within the stopband of the filter. This research project consist of the elementary principle of microwave theory, the elementary knowledge of microwave filter design as well as fabrication and performance evaluation of Chebychev bandpass filters. The Chebyshev response is more selective than the Butterworth response at the expense of the insertion loss and greater group delay. The purpose of the research project is to design, fabricate, test and evaluate the performance of microstrip filter based on coupled line filter (CLF) and hair pin filter (HPF) designs on the ROGER 4003C substrate material. The insertion loss method was used to produce the parallel coupled quarter wavelength resonator filters. The compatible filter mentioned in this project was able to filter out the required frequency for Digital Radio Broadcasting in the range of 1.452 GHz to 1.492 GHz. The filters were designed and simulated using Microwave Office 2003 (V6.01). Prototype of Chebychev bandpass hairpin line and coupled line filters were then fabricated on ROGER4003C material. The entire filter designs and the performances of the substrate material to the designs are contrast. The filters were tested using Advantest R3767CG Network Analyzer. From the test results it was found that for the specified 3 dB bandwidth of 40 MHz, CLF performed 50.6052 MHz, and HPF 45.0936 MHz. Center frequency (1.4720 MHz), CLF performed 1.4298 MHz, HPF 1.4755 MHz. Load quality Q (36.8), CLF performed 36.614, HPF 28.2540 and the specified matching impedance of 50 Ω, CLF performed 51.587 and HPF 42.078.
