Marie Duru-Bellat, Annick Kieffer, Catherine Marry : Die Dynamik der Schullaufbahn der Madchen : die Befragung des Doppelhindernisses. ; ; Dieser Aufsatz zeichnet die Entwicklung der geschlechtlichen und sozialen Unterschiede in der Schule seit Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts auf, im Lichte des schulischen und wirtschaftlichen Felds. Er stutzt sich auf die Daten der Untersuchungen Formation-Qualification Professionnelle des statistischen Amts INSEE. Die Geschichte der Schullaufbahnen der Jungen und Madchen ist die der Aufholung durch die Madchen, und schliesslich der Umkehr zu ihren Gunsten der Ungleichheiten zum Eintritt in die verschiedenen Stufen des ersten und zweiten Zyklus des hoheren Schulwesens, unter der relativen Berucksichtigung der geschlechtlichen Segregierung in Studiengebieten und Studienwegen. Die Umkehrung der geschlechtlichen Ungleichheiten steht dem weniger spurbaren Ruckgang der sozialen Ungleichheiten gegenuber, die ihrerseits uber den gesamten Zeitabschnitt wesentlich grosser sind. Die Hierarchie der sozialen Ungleichheiten ist wenig davon beruhrt und bleibt etwa die gleiche fur die beiden Geschlechte, wobei die Kinder von leitenden Angestellten sich wesentlich hervorheben. In den unteren Volksschichten haben die Madchen die Jungen spater eingeholt, sie liegen heute ihnen jedoch klar voraus. Die Madchen aus Landwirtschafts- und Kleinbetrieben sind die am meisten begunstigten dieser Bewegung. Die These von Doppelhindernis des Geschlechts und der Klasse, die in zahlreichen Arbeiten verteidigt wird, kann also nur fur die altesten Kohorten bestatigt werden.

The “glass ceiling” in France: is the public sector more egalitarian than the private sector?

The article compares the careers of women in top executive and high ranking positions in the public and private sectors in France. The first part presents a review of the main approaches and interpretations offered to the glass ceiling issue in the sociological literature. The second part investigates the common traits as well as the striking differences in the social logic of the construction of gender inequalities in careers, in both sectors. The public sector, for a long time, has seemed to be more “egalitarian” and open to women than private companies. However, in the conclusion, we question if this distinctive characteristic is disappearing.
