Abstract This study aims to analyze the syntax of the World Health Organizations quality of life HIV/AIDS instrument (WHOQOL-HIV), provided by the WHOQOL-HIV Group. As a result, errors and inconsistencies in the syntax of WHOQOL-HIV were found. In face of the fragility found, two new syntaxes for WHOQOL-HIV were proposed: (a) a correction of errors found in the original syntax; and (b) restructuration of the calculation of scores for WHOQOL-HIV, bringing it closer to the WHOQOL-100. Through the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software, the syntaxes proposed were tested and compared to the syntax of the original WHOQOL-HIV. It was noted that both proposals met their respective purposes. They were also sent to researchers on the theme under consideration to verify the presence of errors. No irregularity was found. It can be concluded that the syntax of the WHOQOL-HIV differs significantly from the syntax of its precursor, the WHOQOL-100, presenting errors and inconsistencies. The differences observed compromise the fidelity of the instrument under consideration and, therefore, it is here commended the use of the syntax proposed in this study, which offers superior precision to portray the empirical reality of quality of life in human immunodeficiency virus positive people.

Aim: Predict the Human Development Index (HDI) of 2013 and 2014 of Latin American countries through forecast data mining techniques. Methodology: Full stages of Knowledge Discovery in Databases applied in univariate and multivariate time series. For the prediction, the predicting abilities of 90 predicting models were tested, distributed in two global multivariate, 44 specific multivariate per country and 44 univariate. The algorithm SMOReg was adopted in the development of models as it presented a better performance among the learning algorithms based on functions tested in the experiment. Results: It was observed that the predictions of the models did not present significant statistical differences from the HDI tendencies disclosed in the last report of the United Nations Development Program. Nevertheless, the global multivariate models presented better quality measures in the predictions. Conclusion: The HDI prediction models used with multivariate time series provide better learning of algorithms with the increase of different univariate historical experiences.

This study aims to analyze the evolution of the weekly working hours (WWH) of the Brazilian population in relation to its free time and the Human Development Indicator (HDI) from 2008 to 2012. In this study, data were collected from the National Sample Household Survey (NSHS) and from the United Nations Development Programme for Development (PNUD). The data were systematically compared by determining the temporal correlations between the HDI, WWH, housework and Brazilian workers’ free time. A gender subgroup was analysed in order to observe different inferences for each of these categories and its relationship with work. The results show that the HDI is directly proportional to the WWH for women and inversely proportional to the WWH for men. It was also found that the number of weekly working hours was higher for women than it was for men. Over the years, women have made a greater contribution to the development of the HDI than men, mainly due to increases in their presence in the labour market, combined with the reduction in gender inequality in society.

This study assesses the retractions of scientific articles in engineering journals indexed on the Web of Science from 1945 to 2015. The data set was built based on documents containing the keywords retracted, retraction, withdrawal, or redress. We used database exploration techniques, including Structured Query Language and analysis of variance, for data analysis. We analyzed 238 retractions published by 117 journals. The most common reason for retraction was unethical research, and higher impact factors journals tended to publish more retractions. In conclusion, most of the analyzed retractions were the result of unethical research and were retracted by editors.

This study was aimed at analysing the distortion produced by an error in the WHOQOLHIV instruments original syntax; syntax is proposed which would correct such error. SPSS software was used for testing the new syntax which was then sent to researchers regarding the topic being considered to verify the presence of errors. It was noted that the proposed syntax met its goal and no irregularity was found. It was thus concluded that the WHOQOL-HIV syntax had an error which jeopardised this instruments fidelity. Using the syntax proposed in this study would enable superior precision in portraying the empirical reality of the quality of life for HIV-positive people.O presente estudo objetiva analisar as distorcoes produzidas por um erro presente na sintaxe original do instrumento WHOQOL-HIV, propondo uma sintaxe com correcao ao referido erro.
