The Performances of Complex SSC/MRC Combiner in the Presence of Rayleigh Fading

Dragana Krstic; Petar Nikolic; Dragan Radenkovic

The probability density function (PDF) of dual-branch Switch and Stay/Maximal Ratio Combining (SSC/MRC) combiner output signal at two time instants in the presence of Rayleigh fading is determined in this paper. Afterwards, this PDF is used for calculation of the bit error rate (BER), outage probability (Pout) and amount of fading (AF) for complex SSC/MRC combiner for binary phase swift keying (BPSK) modulation, depending on some parameter values. Graphically presented results point out the gain of using this complex SSC/MRC combiner compared with classical MRC combiners and one channel receiver at one time instant. It can also be concluded that using of this complex SSC/MRC combiner is not economical in the case of strongly correlated signals.

First-Order Statistical Characteristics of Macrodiversity System with Three Microdiversity MRC Receivers in the Presence of k-µ Short-Term Fading and Gamma Long-Term Fading

Branimir Jakšić; Mihajlo Stefanovic; Danijela Aleksić; Dragan Radenkovic; Siniša Minić

Macrodiversity system with macrodiversity SC receiver and three microdiversity MRC maximum ratio combining receivers is considered. Independent k-μ short-term fading and correlated Gamma long-term fading are present at the inputs of microdiversity MRC receivers. For this model, the probability density function and the cumulative density function of microdiversity MRC receivers and macrodiversity SC receiver output signal envelopes are calculated. Influences of Gamma shadowing severity, k-μ multipath fading severity, Rician factor and correlation coefficient at probability density function, and cumulative density function of macrodiversity SC receiver output signal envelopes are graphically presented.

Dragana Krstic; Dragan Radenkovic; Ilija Temelkovski; Srboljub Zdravkovic; Srdjan Maričić

In this paper, macro diversity Selection Combining (SC) system with two Equal Gain Combining (EGC) diversity receivers operating over shadowed multipath fading environment is considered. The received signal is subjected simultaneously to Gamma long term fading and Nakagami-m short term fading resulting in signal envelope variation and signal envelope power variation. The moments of macro SC receiver output signal are evaluated. Macro diversity SC receiver is used to reduce Gamma long term fading effects on system performance and micro diversity EGC receivers are used to mitigate Nakagami-m short term fading effects on moments. The numerical results are presented graphically to show the influence of severity of Nakagami-m fading, severity of Gamma fading and correlation coefficient on moments of macro SC receiver output signal envelope.

Novel Method for 5G Systems NLOS Channels Parameter Estimation

Vladeta Milenkovic; Stefan Panic; Dragan Denic; Dragan Radenkovic

For the development of new 5G systems to operate in mm bands, there is a need for accurate radio propagation modelling at these bands. In this paper novel approach for NLOS channels parameter estimation will be presented. Estimation will be performed based on LCR performance measure, which will enable us to estimate propagation parameters in real time and to avoid weaknesses of ML and moment method estimation approaches.

Level crossing rate of MRC receiver over η-μ multipath fading

Dragana Krstic; Mariusz Glabowski; Dragan Radenkovic; Ilija Temelkovski

The wireless communication system with maximal ratio combining (MRC) receiver functioning over independent, identical multipath fading channels is examined in this paper. Received signal experiences η-μ multipath fading resulting in second order performance measures degradation. The closed form expressions for average level crossing rate of MRC receiver output signal envelope is calculated. Numerical results are presented graphically to show influence of η-μ fading parameters on second order performance measures of wireless communication system with MRC receiver.

Multiple co-channel interferers effect on system performances in Ricean fading channels

Dragana Krstic; Stefan Panic; Goran Stamenovic; Dragan Radenkovic

In this paper an approach to the performance analysis of wireless transmission over the Ricean fading channels experiencing an arbitrary number of multiple Ricean co-channel interferers is presented. Useful closed form expressions are derived for the probability density function (PDF) and cumulative distribution function (CDF), average error probabilities (ABEP) over some coherent and non-coherent frequency and phase- shift keying modulation schemes in interference limited system. Selection diversity reception effect on the performance improvement for various values of fading severity is also investigated.

Bit error rate of MRC receiver for BPSK signals in the presence of G fading

Dragana Krstic; Petar Nikolic; Zoran Milić; Dragan Radenkovic; Mihajlo Stefanovic

The performances of Maximal Ratio Combining (MRC) receivers in the presence of G fading over L independent diversity reception paths are presented in this paper. Coherent Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK) modulation is applied. For the bit error rate (BER) determination, the approach with moment generating function (MGF) and alternative representation of Gaussian Q-function are used. The bit error rate values are numerically calculated for different number of branches, then graphically represented for appropriate distribution factors values and finally compared and discussed.
