This study sought to investigate and analyze the conceptions of professionals from family health teams regarding violence against women and care practice, through participant research, undertaken in a city located in the northwest region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. A total of 30 professionals participated, in eight meetings, involving a process of reflection and learning, held in September - December 2012. The data were analyzed using content analysis. The professionals understand that violence against women exists due to the hierarchy and the relationships between men and women, which confers more power on men, a situation which legitimates male practice of violence. The care practice is based on a biological conception of the problem, with a tendency to the social. The care is directed towards the treatment of physical injuries, listening, guidance, denunciation, and referral to specialized health departments and the social service. DESCRIPTORS: Violence against women. Health personnel. Family health. Assistance.

This paper analyzes the limitations of the care of professionals of family health teams provided to women in situations of violence in the integrated care network in a city in the northwest region of Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil. The data is part of a survey conducted with six teams participating in family health care in the course of eight meetings, in which the group identified the limits and potential of the practice. The causes of limits, solutions and improvement actions were discussed in a movement of reflection, action and learning. The empirical material was recorded, transcribed and subjected to Bardins thematic content analysis. The results show the lack of coordination between the sectors of the network; lack of protocol, flow and organization of reference and counter-reference; inefficiency of police, judiciary and security sectors; and the lack of professionals to work on violence against women and in the perspective of the network as restrictive conditions for efficient practice. The need is highlighted for greater support of municipal managers to the professionals for networking and encouragement through the qualification and ongoing education courses that address issues such as gender equity, guarantee of rights and a care network.

The article aims at making a reflection about utilizing the health popular education as a potentializing methodology of the health actions performed by nurses. Since the 1970s, popular education became outstanding in the realm of health because it utilizes dialogue and listening as care tools and allows the expression of the critical thought and world views by appraising interpersonal exchanges between the scientific and the popular knowledge and learning about the health-sickness process and self-care. In view of the evolution of the public policies, health actions have required new methodologies in order to work with health promotion and prevention of diseases. Thus, Popular Education is capable of rescuing the nurse´s role as an educator under the care perspective, reflecting about the methodology and the utilized working tools and the impacts and results obtained through dialogue, respect and appraisal of the subjects within their collective environment.

OBJECTIVE: Analyzing the limiting and potentializing situations during the assistance of the Family Health teams to women in situations of violence. METHODS: This is a participatory research carried out with 30 professionals from six Family Health teams. Data production was the result of eight workshop-meetings. The technique of thematic content was used for data analysis. RESULTS: User embracement is potentialized by qualified hearing and the elaboration of an assistance plan shared with users also respecting their decisions and their family context. It is limited by the understanding that women should report the violence to enable the proposition of an intervention. It is recommended to resume concepts and practices of gender as well as human and social rights to strengthen supportive actions. CONCLUSION: Home visits and the bonding between professionals and users are considered potentializers of user embracement and the limitation is the difficulty of obtaining the report of women who suffered violence and engage them in a care project.

The aim of this study was to investigate practices of health professionals for users undergoing violence from perspective of comprehensive care. This study was based on a qualitative and descriptive research on graduate-level and technical health professionals who work in the Family Health Strategy programme in a northeastern municipality of Rio Grande do Sul. Data were collected by means of semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic mode. Results showed that these professionals do not utilize comprehensiveness to guide their care practices with users undergoing violence. Instead, they still work according to the biomedical model in which intervention is based on referring care to other sectors and the treatment plan. The study highlights the need for more appropriation and further discussion on practices regarding violence guided by the principle of comprehensiveness within the Family Healthcare team.
