The objective of this study was to evaluate the adherence of the Pedagogic Projects of Nursing Graduation Courses (PPC/ENF) to the National Guidelines for the Curriculum of Nursing Graduation Courses (DCN/ENF). It was a descriptive study that compared the information obtained from the reports of the PPC/ENF and the proposals of DCN/ENF, using data collected by INEP/MEC and made available for this study. The data base consisted of all reports from 110 nursing graduation courses that were seeking accreditation or renewal between 2002 and 2006. Sixty aspects of the evaluation were selected and 10. The study reports that the rate of adherence of the nursing courses to the DCN/ENF guidelines was low, 72%. These findings indicate there is a need for nursing courses/schools to adjust the epistemological bases of the DCN/ENF to the proposals of PPC/ENF.

In this study we approach the issue preoperatory orientation which we understand to be a vital practice in the field of Nursing also allowing the identification of same features at clients perception regarding the information achieved before operation. It is also suitable to recognize the failure of this procedure in the daily work at surgical units which upsets us with the absence of a guideline for preparing patients to surgical acts. Facing this need, we have decided to deeply investigate this issue to achieve the dimension, the description and analyzing the trajectory follow-up started in the first contact with the phenomenological approach. Thus, we make use of our patient operator/phase through his talk according to MARTINS & BICUDOs reference. So, this research aims at presenting the knowledge feature achieved through patients talk, its meaning and repercussion onto the individual plane as well as identifying what should alone improve it. That is the way phenomenological method questions the need of a preoperatory orientation which links us to theme dimension. In our experience of guiding patients to cope with their surgical intervention, we open a space that allows us to intervene under the perspective of conducting patients to recognize their existential dimension of experiencing an operation. In this study we approach the issue preoperatory orientation which we understand to be a vital practice in the field of Nursing also allowing the identification of same features at clients perception regarding the information achieved before operation. OBJECTIVE: To analyze doctoral dissertation abstracts of a graduate program in nursing. METHODS: This exploratory study was conducted in December, 2005. The doctoral dissertation abstracts were evaluated using criteria set by the NBR 6028/1990 of the Brazilian Association of Technical Norms on a 12-item scale. The analysis was conducted with the GraphPad Prism software. RESULTS: Sixty five doctoral dissertations were defended between February 2001 and December 2005. Among these dissertations, 38.98% consisted of topics in public health. Abstracts published in 2005 had higher score in the ABNT scale (c2=6.84, p=0.008). Scores were transformed into grades, which led to 61% of approval. CONCLUSIONS: The findings of this study might contribute to faculty and students reflections on the quality of doctoral dissertation abstracts, which must meet established NBR/ABNT criteria.
