Fission of actinides with tabletop lasers

Heinrich Schwoerer; F. Ewald; Roland A. Sauerbrey; Jean Galy; Joseph Magill; Roland Schenkel

We report the first laser induced fission of actinide nuclei with high intensity tabletop lasers. The results are discussed in the context of laser plasma diagnostics and nuclear waste handling.

High-intensity Laser Induced Photo-proton Reactions

Kay-Uwe Amthor; Ben Liesfeld; F. Ewald; Heinrich Schwoerer; Roland Sauerbrey; L. Robson; P. McKenna; K.W.D. Ledingham

We demonstrate for the first time photo-proton nuclear reactions in various nuclei induced by a high-intensity, high repetition rate table-top laser and measure ratios of photo-proton/photo-neutron cross-sections

Electron and Proton Acceleration from Solid Targets by High-intensity Table-top Lasers

Kay-Uwe Amthor; Ben Liesfeld; F. Ewald; Heinrich Schwoerer; Roland Sauerbrey; Fazia Hannachi; Jean Francois Chemin; Tomaz Zagar; Jean Galy; Joseph Magill; K.W.D. Ledingham; Igor Lengar; Jure Skvarc

Electron and proton beams were investigated using a compact laser with intensities up to 2times1019 W/cm2 irradiating thin targets. For the direction of the electron beam theory and experiment disagree

Comparison of front and rear surface fs-laser ion acceleration from fusion neutron spectroscopy

Stefan Karsch; Dietrich Habs; S. Dusterer; Heinrich Schwoerer; F. Ewald; R. Sauerbrey

Summary from only given. Fusion neutrons were produced by irradiation of 20 micron heavy water droplets by an ultraintense fs-laser pulse. TOF neutron spectroscopy allowed for the first time the direct comparison of ions accelerated from the front and rear target surfaces.
