The checklist of the Movement Assessment Battery for Children second edition (MABC-2-Checklist) was developed as an instrument for screening children with motor difficulties. OBJECTIVE: To translate, adapt and verify (1) the face, content and construct validity and the reliability of the Portuguese version of the MABC-2 Checklist; as well as to investigate the usefulness of the MABC-2-Checklist as a screening instrument in Brazil. METHODS: Participated in the study 47 health related professional (physical educators and physical therapists), 20 parents, and 532 children (girls: 276; boys: 256) between 5 and 12 year-old. RESULTS: indicated that the adapted version of the MABC-2-Checklist to Portuguese demonstrated convergent and discriminant validity (p values ≤ 0,05); excellent reliability (all sections, α= 0,94) and high indices of inter-evaluators reliability. CONCLUSION: the adapted Portuguese version of the Checklist-MABC-2 demonstrated validity and reliability to screen children with motor difficulties and to further refereed to more complete assessments and intervention.

There are many tests for the evaluation of motor performance or physical fitness that take into account different criteria such as movement forms and patterns, time, distance, and repetitions of each task for the analysis of performance. The aim of this study was to inves- tigate the relationship between motor performance and physical fitness scores in children. Fifty children of both genders aged 7 to 8 years (25 boys and 25 girls) participated in this study. The Test of Gross Motor Development - Second Edition (TGMD-2) was used for the evaluation of motor performance. Physical fitness was assessed by three specific tests proposed by the Ameri - can Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD). The results showed statistical significance and weak correlations among some skills such as run, horizontal jump, hop, leap, underhand roll, and medicine ball throw. The equivalent use of both tests may not be adequate since each test has its own peculiarities in terms of assessment criteria.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects of a walking program on levels of functional autonomy of elderly participants of the Family Health Program. METHODS: In this experimental study, the sample was randomly divided into: experimental group (EG, n = 58, age: 67 ± 6 years) and a control group (n = 40, age: 70 ± 6 years). All were physically active but without a rigorous program of regular physical activity. Functional autonomy was evaluated by the battery of tests of the Group of Latin American Development to Maturity (GDLAM), comprising: walk 10m (C10M), rising from a seated position (LPS), rising from the prone position (LPDV), rising from his chair and moving around the house (LCLC) and test and get a dress shirt (VTC). These tests result in GDLAM index (GI). The intervention program was conducted in weekly frequency of three times, with intensity ranging from 55% to 75% of maximum heart rate. RESULTS: In the intragroup analysis, one could observe a significant improvement in the SG in all tests GDLAM and IG (Δ =- 4.13, p = 0.0001), although the GC obtained a significant worsening in all GDLAM tests and IG (Δ = +0.05, p = 0.0001). In intergroup comparison, the GE was superior to GC in all tests (p <0.05) and IG (Δ =- 8.23, p = 0.0001). CONCLUSIONS: It can be inferred that the GE, after undergoing regular walking activity and controlled, had improved the level of functional autonomy, compared to the initial and the GC.
