Purpose: to analyze documents of System of Primary Health Care (SIAB) tool and verify its potential for speech-language’s action planning. Methods: we analyzed the documents of Ministry of Health for the SIAB and accessed the records and reports of the SIAB’s Family Health Strategy and Municipal Health Department. Results: the data from SIAB express the life / health conditions of diseases and disorders of the families as well as reveal the conditions of service and health production, however, there are limitations such as, external interference (incompleteness of teams and mismanagement of the data) that impair their use. Conclusions: the data available on the audiologist SIAB approaching the real needs of users, promoting the organization of activities, stimulating the role of professionals and individuals favoring the bond and the solvability of the shares, which does not mean that they are sufficient, it is always possible to prepare or improve tools to facilitate the deployment or implementation of speech-language’s actions directed to the promotional activities in different levels of health care.

Os múltiplos aspectos da linguagem em processo demencial: um comparativo entre contexto doméstico e institucional

Jayne Guterres de Mello; Michele Vargas Garcia; Elenir Fedosse

Analyzing the expression and interpretation/verbal comprehension and its underlying mechanisms (hearing, body balance, voice and orofacial motricity) of two elderly women with clinical picture of dementia - one living in the family environment and another on a home for the aged. Are presented the cases of two elderly: an 85-year-old woman, with diagnosis of Alzheimers Dementia, which resides with her husband and one of their daughters, and a 90-year-old woman diagnosed with Vascular Dementia residing in a home for the aged. Considering the language on its multiple aspects (hearing, body balance, voice and orofacial motricity) was held a complete speech evaluation, on which were observed linguistic manifestations that depict less verbal production on the part of the institutionalized elderly. The results obtained by the hearing assessments (accuracy and processing), body balance, voice and orofacial motricity revealed expected features in healthy ageing process. The organic-physiological conditions of the elderly were compatible with the natural process of ageing, while the linguistic-cognitive ones presented themselves more committed. The functioning of the language presented similar features - expected on the ageing in dementia process - in both elderly, but, the institutionalized one presented linguistic-cognitive manifestations more committed. This study demonstrates the convenience of the action of the Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences in the ageing, especially with dementia, not only in a family context but also in an institutional one.

The study deals with the Connectionist Theory and its branches, and how this theoretical model can contribute to the speech and language practice. This was aimed to collect and discuss several studies on the Connectionist Theory applied to language acquisition aiming at promoting the reflection on the contributions that this theory may bring out to speech and language therapy. It was found that the studies based on the connectionist theory related to speech and language therapy are prevalent in the area of language acquisition and language therapy, auditory and reading processing. However, they are scarce and little applied. Moreover, there is no direct relation between this theory and the techniques that can be used, but yes, with the analysis of therapeutic outcome, especially with the interpretation of how the process concerning learning the spoken and written language is carried out.
