An encapsulant molding technique used in chip-on-board encapsulation wherein a residual organic compound layer on the surface of a substrate is used to facilitate removal of unwanted encapsulant material. An organic compound layer which inherently forms on the substrate during the fabrication of the substrate or during various chip attachment processes is masked in a predetermined location with a mask. The substrate is then cleaned to remove the organic compound layer. The mask protects the masked portion of the organic material layer which becomes a release layer to facilitate gate break. An encapsulant mold is placed over the substrate and chip and an encapsulant material is injected into the encapsulant mold cavity through an interconnection channel. The release layer is formed in a position to reside as the bottom of the interconnection channel. Preferably, the interconnection channel has a gate adjacent the encapsulant mold cavity. The encapsulant material solidifies and the encapsulant mold is removed, wherein the gate forms an indentation abutting the cavity. Excess encapsulant solidified in the interconnection channel is leveraged from the surface of the substrate and broken free at the indentation. The remaining release layer may then be removed.

Abstract Rapid changes in the world due to the emergence of an information society, scientific and technological developments, and a growing capitalist global economy have made intercultural and inter-ethnic contacts a fairly ordinary phenomenon. However, paradoxically, cultural diversity has had to cope with powerful homogenising instruments of a globalised planet; consequently, cultural issues cannot be considered apart from power relations. In education, a recent phenomenon – the teacher research movement – has tried to fight against conservative and dominant forms of teaching and teacher education. In this article, it is argued that teacher research, as an international movement, has the potential to become a counter-hegemonic strategy to construct critical teacher education approaches in a globalised world.

This article discusses practice as a curriculum component in teacher education from three perspectives: 1. an analysis of this expression at the current Brazilian educational legislation, that means, in the legal documents on Education written, in Brazil, after the National Educational Law was approved in 1996; 2. the discussion, based upon John Dewey’s work, about the origins of the difficulties to both understand and follow the principle of no separation between theory and practice in teacher education and, finally, 3. the presentation of some possibilities through the so-called movement for the professionalization of teaching work a movement started in the 1980’s, in the United States and Canada, and which has principles such as: to conceive teaching as a professional activity based upon a solid knowledge foundation; to understand professional practice as an educational setting and as a place for practitioners produce knowledge; and to establish links between university institutions and elementary, middle and high schools.
