This is a qualitative research supported by the assistencial convergent modality that aimed to use Wanda Horta’s referential with fifteen nursing students during Clinical Education in Semiology and Semiotchnical at a private college of Curitiba, and to verify the perception of these students concerning this trajectory. The students considered that this practice provided a vision of the patient as a whole, culminating in a theory-practice approach in the related disciplines and facilitating the care humanization. In addition, they emphasize that the systematization of nursing assistance based on Horta’s benchmark reveals the importance of the nurse’s work, since it outlines the knowledge of this category with greater precision, increasing the professional’s performance perception and improving the quality of the nursing assistance.

Elderly oncological patients are marked by several limitatons and impositions generated by the disease and aging process, which lead them to hospitalization. This is a qualitative research with an ethnographic approach. This study took place at a clinical ward in a reference hospital for cancer treatment, in the city of Curitiba, Parana. This study aimed to interpret hospitalized elderly cancer patients suffering and the self care performed to minimize their suffering. The data was collected in 2007, from April to June, by participant observation and ethnographic interview. The following methodological phases were considered to analyze the data: domain, taxonomic and thematic. As a result of the research, four cultural domains emerged as well as a cultural theme titled: “through the elderly calvary of pain, the belief that sustains life”. Intense physical pain, lack of appetite, breathing difficulty and impossibility of walking and working are noticed by the elderly as the main suffering related to cancer. It is concluded that informers make direct allusion to a calvary in which religion was used as the most essential self care.

Objective: exposing the Programs and issuances capable of insertion of the area of health, and specifically in the nursing from 2006 to November 2008, as well as weaveeing some reflections on the Nursing in this context. Methods: quantitative retrospective documentary research developed during November 2008 by means of search in the site of the CNPq, referring to the report of 2006 and the proclamations published during 2007 and 2008. Results: 19 proclamations had been found in 2006, with 596 projects and only 15 of them with possible linkage with the area of the health. In 2007 42 proclamations had been launched, being that in 10 the Nursing could be enrolled. Already in 2008, 7 programs with possibility of insertion of the Nursing had been verified; e 24 of the 70 divulged proclamations had presented affinity with this professional category. Conclusion: It is possible to verify that the Nursing must adjust its lines of research and projects to the programs and proclamations of the CNPq and thus to concur for the financing. It is recommended undertaking studies that specify which programs and issuances Nursing have been inserted, and make an exploration on how scientific research in this profession can be developed, with a view to greater participation in bids to promote the research and scholarship. Descriptors: research; nursing research; research financing.
