Poetry as a literature work which is a manifestation of human culture that is full of life value, so it is very relevant for character building. The aim of this research is to describe character value and how to implemented on literature study at school of poetry “Bulan Ruwah” from Subagio Sastrowardoyo. This qualitative research applies the description method and using content analyisis. The data of this research is Subagio Sastrowardoyo’s poetry “Bulan Ruwah”. The data analysis techique was referenced technique and recorded technique, using stylistic approach. It is found that there are three values of characters in the poetry “Bulan Ruwah”.

The goal of Speaking Course in higher education is to develop student’s ability to speak effectively. The aim of this research are: 1) to investigate the differences on students’ speaking ability taught by Cooperative, Synectics, and CTL learning models, 2) to find the differences of speaking ability among the students with high motivation and low one, 3) to know the interactions between learning model and motivation toward speaking ability. This quasi experimental research used factorial design 3x2. The data were collected through questionnaire for measuring students’ motivation for speaking, empirical test for knowing the validity and reliability of instruments as well as speaking test to measure speaking achievement. The research results showed that there were interactions between learning models and motivation for speaking toward speaking ability. The speaking score of students with high motivation and taught by cooperative learning model was better than them with synectics and CTL. Keywords—cooperative; synectics; CTL; motivation; speaking

A cooperative approach-based Speaking Learning Model (SLM) has been developed to improve speaking skill of Higher Education students. This research aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of cooperative-based SLM viewed from the development of student’s speaking ability and its effectiveness on speaking activity. This mixed method study combined evaluative descriptive and experimental designs. The population was the first semester students from Department of Indonesian Language and Letter Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education in 4 regencies of East Java Province, Indonesia. By stratified random sampling, 50% of populations were taken as the sample. The research instruments covered questionnaire, interview, FGD, and speaking test. Data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing became the data analyses phases upon questionnaire, interview, and FGD. The data from speaking test were analyzed by t-test in which normality and homogeneity tests were conducted previously. Statistically, both speaking ability scores were different because Fcalculation was 11.380 while Ftable was 3.91 at the significance level = 0.05. Since Fcalculation > Ftable, it can be concluded that cooperative approach gave significant influence in improving speaking ability and was more effective than the conventional one.

Cultural social in Makassar society has an impact to life point of view and orientation to interact each other. This study is to answer the problem about how is the cultural effect to society’s life in Makassar. This research aims to describe and explain the connection between literature and society relating cultural social aspect of Makassar society in Novel by Khrisna Pabichara. Data collection is done by content analysis technique. The data was analyzed with qualitave method by using literature sociology teory. Data resource of this research is Natisha novel text quote. Analysis result showed about five cultural aspects influencing Makassar society. Sirik is a principal form and perspective of Makassar society. Silariang is marriage tradition violation done by a couple to elope. Social class of Makassar society has an important role in social life. Greetings, Makassar persons greet depend on their social class. Makassar society has literature which is called lontarak with lontar leaf media.

Javanese literary works are reflections of the scriptwriters’ real world. Ketoprak script is one of the literary works of the traditional Javanese drama genre. There are several kinds of ketoprak scripts in Java and each region has different aspects. Each ketoprak text can reflect the social condition of its native area when analyzed by sociological literary-approach. Sociology of literature is a study that connects literature with its social reality. Classical ketoprak script of Surakarta style viewed from the perspective of sociological literature is a reflection of the socio-cultural life of the community in Surakarta. It is seen from a socio-historical perspective, socio-cultural, and linguistic aspects used in the classical ketoprak script of Surakarta style. These three aspects make the classical ketoprak script of Surakarta style has a local specificity and characteristics that distinguish it from other Javanese literature.
