Consequences of negative lifestyle behaviors may be different between adults and elderly, especially for hypertensive individuals. Therefore, this study compared the lifestyle of a group of hypertensive adults and elderly enrolled in the Family Health Program (FHP) of the city of Patos-PB. In a descriptive and cross-sectional study, 97 hypertensive patients of both sexes were randomly selected from FHPs and divided based on the age into two groups: Adults (<60 years, n= 44) and Elderly (≥60 years, n= 53). Lifestyle was assessed by the Individual Lifestyle Profile Scale (ILPS) composed of five components: Nutrition, Physical Activity, Preventive Behavior, Social Relationship and Stress Control. Each component was classified as negative (≤3 points) or positive (≥4 points). The ILPS scores were compared between the groups by the Mann-Whitney U test. Associations between component profiles and age groups were verified using the Chi-square test. Results showed that the Elderly presented a higher proportion of positive ILPS compared to Adults (P≤ 0.05), respectively, for Nutrition (n= 42, 79.2% vs. n= 26, 59.1%) and for Social Relationship (n= 49, 92.5% vs. n= 34, 77.3%). It is concluded that the Elderly were more conducive to a healthier lifestyle than the Adults. Because both age groups present a predominance of a negative profile in Physical Activity, it is suggested that the subjects adhere to the practice of physical exercise as a non-drug treatment, reducing the risk factors associated with hypertension.

Sedentary lifestyle is a serious health problem in the world and, in the Brazil, 80% of the population presents this behavior with a lower level of physical activity [1]. This behavior is associated with serious health risks and inversely related to physical activity (PA). Low levels of physical activity may develop or aggravate chronic degenerative diseases; however, this PA promotion prevents and treats diseases such as hypertension, obesity, and diabetes. Therefore, PA is important and is conceptualized as any bodily movement with sufficient intensity to elevate the energy expenditure above resting levels [2].

Introduction: In sports, classification systems have the main purpose of establishing a fair and equal starting point for competitors. However, the efficiency of the classification system adopted in swimming for athletes with visual impairments, has been questioned. Objective: To analyze the relationship between performance and classification in 50-meter freestyle swimmers with visual impairments of classes 11, 12 and 13. Material and Methods: This was a documentary study with data on the end time of the circuit, in seconds, and the classification of national and international athletes. Spearman’s correlation test was used to determine the strength of the relationship between the visual classification system and the end time of the circuit. The comparison of end times between classes was performed by analysis of variance (ANOVA one-way). Results: The visual classification system showed a strong negative correlation with the end time of the circuit only in the analysis of international athletes (n=24, ρ=-0.796, p=0.001), unlike national athletes (n=15, ρ=-0.260, p>0.05). There were significant differences between the classes of swimmers with visual impairment 11 and 12, and between 11 and 13, but only for the performance of international athletes (F=33.25, p=0.001). Conclusion: The visual classification system is strongly related to the end time of the circuit, confirming that differences in sight degrees were crucial to the performance of men in 50-m freestyle swimming, but only at the international level.
