This cross-sectional study analyzed the influence of age on the perception of finitude and quality of life (QOL) of government employees, with a non-probabilistic accessibility sample composed of 471 employees with an average age of 40. A self-administered questionnaire was used for the study. The results show that physical activity of group C had the highest average in all components and group B the lowest values, with the exception of walking. All the participants achieved good scores in the four domains of QOL (58% - 74%). In the perception of finitude, group B obtained better scores (positive perception) in the four areas, whereas groups A and C had a more negative perception, there being no significant difference between the variables. This study reveals the positive relation of finitude in the age group from 35 to 50. Positive QOL and a high level of physical activity were identified.

The objective of this study was to compare the physical activity and quality of life of patients with prostate cancer and breast cancer undergoing clinical treatment and after treatment. A cross-sectional study with 148 patients (44 men and 104 women), median age of 58.77±10.53 years old, was conduced collecting data with a questionnaire containing: general information, economic status (IBGE), physical activity (IPAQ – short version) and quality of life (EORTC QLQ-C30). The majority of the patients were classified as insufficient active (70.3%) with no difference between the two types of cancer. The time total and actual physical activity practice was 34 min/day, with the walking as the most practiced activity, with 21 min/day. The prostate cancer patients presented better functional scale as the symptomatic scale of quality of life, highlighting the worse scores for the breast cancer patients on the variables of fatigue (p=0.027), nauseas/vomits (p=0.048) and financial difficulties (p=0.034). We conclude that majority of the sample was classified as insufficient active and the prostate cancer patients presented better scores in the functional and symptomatic scales of quality of life when comparing to breast cancer patients.

Abstract Background: The androgen deficiency in the aging male (ADAM) affects physical, sexual, and psychological aspects with characteristics symptoms of middle-aged men. The practice of regular physical activity and physical exercise can attenuate these symptoms. The aim of this randomized clinical trial is to propose a physical exercise protocol based on concurrent training for middle-aged men with ADAM. Method: Randomized clinical trial with a 6-month intervention will randomly divided into two groups: experimental group (EG) and control group (CG). Four evaluations will be carried out, (1) pre-intervention; (2) in the first month of intervention; (3) in the third month of intervention; (4) post-intervention, evaluating: physical, psychological, sexual, and hormonal aspects. The intervention protocol with concurrent training will have duration of 6 months; frequency of 3 times weekly, with 60 min per session. The two-way ANOVA test will be used for the inter-group and intra-group comparisons with repeated measurements, and also Sydak’s comparison test. Conclusion: This protocol was developed with the intent of easing the symptoms of ADAM. In addition, it is believed that the concurrent training protocol could be capable to recover hormonal, physical, psychological, and sexual aspect of middle-aged men with ADAM.

Rev Bras Med Esporte – Vol. 24, No 5 – Set/Out, 2018 ABSTRACT Introduction: Breast cancer treatment can cause different side effects on the quality of life of women. Physical activity, in turn, can reduce these side effects. Objective: To investigate the physical activity and quality of life of women during and after breast cancer treatment. Methods: Sample of 174 women (57.0±9.5 years) during or after clinical treatment for breast cancer. Interview questionnaire composed of general information, physical activity (IPAQ short version) and quality of life (EORTC QLQ-C30 and BR23). For statistical analysis chi-squared test or Fisher’s exact test, student’s t-test for independent samples, Mann-Whitney U test and multiple logistic regression analyses (p <0.05). Results: Most women did not achieve the physical activity guidelines, particularly those undergoing clinical treatment. Results showed longer walking time, moderate physical activity, vigorous physical activity, moderate + vigorous physical activity, and total physical activity among the women following completion of treatment. The quality of life scores were also higher among women after clinical treatment. Logistic regression indicated that every 10-minute increment to walking time results in a 19% decrease in the probability of worse functional capacity and a 26% decrease in the probability of worse symptoms associated with treatment side effects. Conclusion: During treatment, women with breast cancer undertake less physical activity and have worse quality of life. Walking appears to be an effective type of physical activity for these women, improving quality of life during and after breast cancer treatment. This systematic review and meta-analysis analyzes the effect of physical exercise on the cardiorespiratory fitness of men according to type, intensity and duration of intervention, using data from randomized clinical trials; it also seeks to verify the dose-response relationship between duration and intensity of exercise and level of fitness. Databases were searched for reports of relevant studies. A methodological evaluation was carried out. In the statistical analysis, mean, standard deviation and sample size of each group were used. The mean age of the participants was 48.2 ± 17.1 years. The effect on mens VO2 (a measure of cardiovascular fitness) of five to 120 weeks of exercise of moderate to vigorous intensity was found to be a change of 10.190 L/min-1. A meta-regression analysis did not reveal significant results. A positive effect on VO2 of men of different age groups was observed after aerobic and resistance exercise interventions, indicating the beneficial effects of exercise on cardiorespiratory fitness.

ABSTRACT Body image is multidimensional, dynamic, and entirely linked to the body in motion, which entails relevant bodily concerns in the routine of professional dancers, who need to maintain their body aesthetics constantly. The objective was summarizing the scientific production on the body image of professional dancers and to understand how they perceive it. This review is composed by seven studies that investigated professional dancers of classical ballet, jazz and contemporary dance. The results demonstrate that even though they are lean and had appropriate body mass index, professional dancers are dissatisfied with their body and wish to be thinner, that is, professional dancers constitute a risk group for the development of eating disorders. Keywords: dancing; body image; feeding and eating disorders.

Objectives: We aimed to compare level of strength of upper and lower limbs of elderly practitioners and non-practitioners of functional fitness, Florianopolis, SC. Methodology: A quasi-experimental study with a sample of 101 elderly, 50 participants from 51 functional fitness activities and not participating in any systematic program of physical activity. Both groups went through the battery Rikli and Jones (1999), evaluation of strength and endurance of upper limb (forearm flexion) and lower (up and sit in the chair), occurred in July (pre-test) and December (posttest) 2012. We made use of the descriptive statistics and the “t” test, p <0.05. Results: Indicate that the group of practitioners has functional fitness strength of upper and lower levels at best. Conclusion: The findings suggest that participation in a regular program of exercise and targeted functional fitness, contributes effectively to the prevention and minimization of the decline in strength in elderly women.
