Ambiente virtual de aprendizagem na educação continuada em enfermagem

This study is a report of a learning experience that had as objective to describe how was structured the virtual learning environment Moodle for training at work. This is a semi-distance education project for controlling a surgical site infection, oriented to the nurses of a university hospital. The study was organized having as a base the interactionist Skopos Model and on humanist principles. The activities were organized on topics aimed at: informing and updating the central aspects of the topic; generating problematization of situations and extend the individual and collective discussion; promoting integration; and encouraging a joint development of a proposal for action. The Moodle resources helped to select the teaching strategies to update knowledge, to generate ideas, and to promote the integration and collective construction of propositions.This study is a report of a learning experience that had as objective to describe how was structured the virtual learning environment Moodle for training at work. O Ensino da cancerologia na enfermagem no Brasil e a contribuição da Escola Paulista de Enfermagem-Universidade Federal de São Paulo

Cancer control and improvement in health care services require investment in education. We aim in this paper to update the historical retrospective in order to implement medical oncology teaching in nursing undergraduate courses in Brazil and to describe the teaching advancements in this subject at the Paulista Nursing School at the Federal University of Sao Paulo, Brazil (Escola Paulista de Enfermagem da Universidade Federal de Sao Paulo). This is a descriptive study with a historical perspective, using documental analysis. Primary sources were event reports. Secondary sources were nursing articles published in national periodicals. The dynamic and collective character of creating the teaching proposal for medical oncology was decisive in developing its pragmatic and operational structure under the light shed by the concepts of cross-section and interdisciplinary aspects; and by the defense of articulation between educational and service institutions, and by the policy of continuous professional improvement. We conclude that advancements were not homogeneous in the different Brazilian regions and among teaching and health institutions; indicating the need to resume the process. Structure and process of nursing care for prevention of surgical site infection: observational study

High rates of infection can reflect the quality of the service. Two previous studies in the same place reported an overall surgical site infection incidence of 14,1% and 22%, what motivated this research. The aim of this study was to analyze the structure and nursing process and its possible relationship with the prevention and control of surgical site infection (SSI). It is a descriptive, observational and documentary analysis study performed in a large general teaching Hospital in Sao Paulo from August 2007 to March 2008 . The data were collected from institutional documents and trough directed observation of the nursing practice . The results showed that the normative documents are in accord with the current evidence. However, the structure issues present limitations with negative impact for the prevention of SSI. The nursing processes accomplished partially to the recommended standards , the hand washing, appropriate use of antibiotics and accomplishment of postoperative dressing’s present improvement opportunities that could positively impact the surgical site infection’s rates. These results point out the need of review the nursing process and the adequacy of some structural issues in order to achieve the standards for prevention and control of the surgical site infection.

Adaptação transcultural do Caring Ability Inventory para a língua portuguesa

Objective Describe the cross-cultural adaptation of the Caring Ability Inventory (CAI) and its validation in Portuguese. Methods Methodological study developed in two stages, cross-cultural adaptation, analysis of its reliability (reproducibility and internal consistency), and validity (content and construct). The sample comprised 148 informal caregivers of cancer patients and 64 nurses from a public health service. Results In the cross-cultural adaptation of the instrument, a satisfactory content validity was observed. After the pretest, the response scale was changed from seven to five points. The intraclass correlation coefficient was 0.76 and Cronbach’s alpha 0.78. Factorial analysis showed that the instrument items did not remain grouped in the original structure. However, they showed a similar internal consistency. Conclusion The Brazilian Portuguese version of CAI was shown to be reliable and valid, but new researches are needed to study the variations observed in the factorial distribution between the tool dimensions.

Care for families after suicide loss: nursing academic experience

OBJECTIVE To understand how the nursing academics experience the process of taking care of bereaved families after a suicide loss, to identify the meanings of the experience and to build a theoretical model. METHOD Qualitative study that used symbolic interactionism and grounded theory. Open interviews were held with 16 nursing academics. Data were analyzed according to the constant comparative method. RESULTS The phenomenon seeking his/her own restoration to help the bereaved family to move on is represented by the theoretical model composed by the categories: facing the tragedy in the family, evaluating the caring scenario, mobilizing his/her internal resources, performing the care and reflecting on the repercussions of the experience. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS The process represents efforts undertaken by students in the pursuit of the familys restoration to provide the best care toward them, through embracement, listening, sensitivity and flexibility, so it creates opportunities for the family to strengthen and plan their future.
