Identifying and overcoming obstacles to the implementation of sustainable development at universities

Abstract Although there have been proven and successful developments in the field of Higher Education for Sustainable Development over the past 15 years or so, there are still numerous challenges to be overcome. Among these challenges is the need for Higher Education Institutions to improve the integration of sustainability in the curriculum and in research, and most importantly, to integrate it holistically in their systems. This paper presents an analysis of the fundamental obstacles to the incorporation of sustainable development in universities. It reports on an empirical study performed with universities across the world, where some of the main barriers are identified. It is recommended that these barriers are viewed as obstacles and entrepreneurial opportunities, and addressed accordingly.

Emergência temática da inovação sustentável: uma análise da produção científica através da base Web Of Science

A inovacao como fator de competitividade necessita considerar seus efeitos sobre a sociedade e o meio ambiente, de modo a abranger aspectos do ambiente organizacional. Nesse sentido, estudos vem sendo desenvolvidos com o intuito de englobar duas tematicas emergentes: inovacao e sustentabilidade. A fim de ampliar o conhecimento referente a producao cientifica relacionada a inovacao sustentavel, este estudo teve como objetivo analisar as caracteristicas das publicacoes sobre Sustainable Innovation (Inovacao Sustentavel), na base de dados Web of Science, no periodo de 2000 a 2010, e identificar quais topicos em administracao estudados junto a este tema estao sendo mais pesquisados e quais sao mais relevantes (hot topics). O trabalho caracteriza-se como exploratorio e descritivo, pois se trata de um estudo de natureza bibliometrica, que busca o aprofundamento da analise da producao academica sobre inovacao sustentavel. Como principais resultados das 1.022 publicacoes analisadas, constatou-se aumento gradual da producao cientifica, em especial nas seguintes areas tematicas: Gestao (Management), Ciencias Ambientais (Environmental Sciences) e Negocio (Business). Evidenciou-se como hot topcis as combinacoes do topico inovacao sustentavel com: Development (Desenvolvimento), Management (Gestao) e Technology (Tecnologia). Palavras-chave: Inovacao. Decision Making and Social Learning: the Case of Watershed Committee of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil

Water is an essential element to life, and must be available to meet the basic needs of human beings. One of these needs is the production of food, emphasizing the relevance of agribusiness agents in the management of this natural resource. This study discusses how the management of water resources is being conducted by Committees of Watersheds in the State Rio Grande do Sul, focusing on decision making and in social learning. This is an exploratory study, supported by predominantly qualitative analysis. The results showed that the formation of the Committees of Watersheds in the State of Rio Grande do Sul depends on local decisions that are distinct in each region of the State. Evolution in the learning process of the members of the Committees occurs from the existence of conflicts. The conflicts emerge from issues concerning the use of water due to the multiple interests involved and provide discussions and solutions that lead to learning. Decisions taken in the Basin Committees are generally operating and relating to the quantity or quality of water. Social learning is promoted by actions of technical and relational nature offered by the exchange of knowledge and experience among stakeholders and other agents involved.

Relações entre os valores pessoais e os comportamentos ecológicos no contexto da sustentabilidade

Atitudes e valores perante o ambiente tem incitado na sociedade e nas organizacoes uma nova cultura de comportamentos ecologicamente corretos. Ao buscar essa cultura e incorporar os preceitos da sustentabilidade, a gestao das organizacoes torna-se cada vez mais complexa, principalmente porque a adocao dessa atitude requer a insercao de variaveis sociais e ambientais nos valores e nas acoes e comportamentos dos individuos. O presente estudo teve como objetivo primordial investigar os valores pessoais e os comportamentos ecologicos individuais dos colaboradores de uma empresa inserida no contexto da sustentabilidade. Adotou-se a pesquisa descritiva, utilizando-se uma abordagem quantitativa. Por meio de um survey, foi aplicado o instrumento composto pelo Questionario de Perfis de Valores (QVP), de Tamayo e Porto (2009) e pela Escala de Comportamento Ecologico (ECE), de Pato e Tamayo (2006). Identificou-se o perfil de valores pessoais dos colaboradores bem como os comportamentos ecologicos predominantes. O conjunto de valores pessoais examinados apontou para valores referentes aos tipos motivacionais de universalismo, seguranca, conformidade, benevolencia e autodeterminacao. Quanto aos comportamentos ecologicos levantados, destacam-se os referentes a economia de agua e energia e limpeza urbana. Entre os principais achados, destacam-se as relacoes entre os valores e os comportamentos ecologicos, que se manifestaram em sentido diferente dos pressupostos iniciais.

Empreendedorismo. Soluções Inovadoras para Questões Sociais

O presente artigo tem como objetivo identificar as associacoes existentes entre as dimensoes da atitude empreendedora no contexto dos empreendedores sociais. Caracterizou-se como um estudo descritivo com uma abordagem quantitativa. A populacao foi composta por 36 gestores das organizacoes sociais cadastradas na Organizacao Parceiros Voluntarios. Utilizou-se como instrumento para a coleta de dados, um questionario estruturado, aplicado aos gestores das organizacoes participantes. Para analise dos dados, foram realizadas analises estatisticas descritivas e a matriz de correlacao de pearson . Os principais resultados apontaram um predominio do sexo feminino e como principal motivo para a escolha da atividade empreendedora, verificou-se a necessidade de promover a comunidade/pessoas necessitadas e a convivencia com outro empreendedor. Os resultados evidenciaram correlacoes positivas, de moderadas a altas, entre a atitude empreendedora e suas dimensoes, com destaque para a dimensao social, onde os resultados foram expressivos em praticamente todos os indicadores.

Dimensão Social da Sustentabilidade e Saúde Pública: Um Levantamento Bibliométrico

The objective of the study is to describe and analyze the implementation and execution of a new health management model implemented in the Holy Spirit, as the case study of Central State Hospital managed by a Social Health Organization. The work was characterized by a case study, descriptive with qualitative analysis. It was found that the main motivation for the implementation of the Health Social Organization model was the fragility of the management of state government units without solving for patients in need of care in hospitals. Análise Econômica-Financeira em Cooperativas: um estudo de caso na CAMSUL

This study deals with the work of women in the Civil Police of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, under the decent work criteria of the International Labor Organization. The research is classified in the field of sustainability, in the social aspect, related to corporate social responsibility. The aim was to analyze the women’s environment, based on the decent work criteria. The data collection was performed from several sources of evidence, making use of primary and secondary data. The study has a qualitative nature, based on an observation script and a flexible instrument composed of open questions. An interpretation for the use of a content analysis procedure. Women began to work from the 1970s onwards and occupy a prominent place, on par with men, despite some evidence of limited opportunities. The general perception is to disagree with the ILOs indicators, with the exception of criteria related to security and social dialogue, as well as stability and incomes, which are fully or partially met. However, there is no adequacy of work for ILO workers, especially for safety, equality, opportunities, conciliation and working hours.

MODELO DE GESTÃO COOPERATIVA: UM ESTUDO DE CASO NA COEDUCAR

O presente artigo tem como objetivo identificar as caracteristicas e a concepcao de economia solidaria de empreendimentos sociais de diferentes paises participantes da 2a Feira Mundial de Economia Solidaria. Quanto ao metodo, o estudo classifica-se como uma pesquisa descritiva com abordagem qualitativa. Para a coleta de dados primarios utilizou-se de entrevistas semiestruturadas, aplicadas junto aos representantes de quatro empreendimentos da America Latina, sendo eles: Peru, Argentina, Uruguai e Brasil. Dentre os principais resultados tem-se que a maioria dos entrevistados considera a economia solidaria um fenomeno social que resulta em trabalho coletivo, autogestao, equidade e solidariedade o que vem ao encontro dos ditames da teoria. Aliado a isto, destaca-se a importância das feiras como ponto de comercializacao de produtos e troca de informacoes.
