Rosana Maffacciolli; Giselda Veronice Hahn; Maíra Rossetto; Carlos Podalirio Borges de Almeida; Silvia Troyahn Manica; Tiago Sousa Paiva; Dora Lúcia Leidens Corrêa de Oliveira

OBJECTIVE to identify how the notion of vulnerability is used in national and international scientific publications that address the problem of tuberculosis. METHOD an integrative review of literature published in the databases of the Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde, the United States National Library of Medicine and the Biblioteca Digital Brasileira de Teses e Dissertações, considering the descriptors Tuberculosis and Vulnerability in Portuguese and English. RESULTS we selected fifty-eight studies published between 1992 and February 2014, which resulted in three categories of analysis. CONCLUSION the link between tuberculosis and the notion of vulnerability has not been sufficiently consolidated in national and international literature. This creates an obstacle for the achievement of the epistemological transformations and pragmatic measures that are required to obtain better results from interventions in the field.

THE SILENCES FRAMEWORK: METODOLOGIA PARA PESQUISAS DE TEMAS SENSÍVEIS E PERSPECTIVAS MARGINALIZADAS NA SAÚDE

Maíra Rossetto; Évelin Maria Brand; Luciana Barcelos Teixeira; Dora Lúcia Leidens Corrêa de Oliveira; Laura Serrant

© 2017, Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina. All Rights Reserved. Objective: to describe the experience of applying of The Silences Framework to underpin health research investigating Tuberculosis/ HIV/AIDS coinfection. Method: the Silences Framework originally developed following a study exploring the decisions and silences surrounding black Caribbean men living in England, discussing the themes ‘sexual health’ and ‘ethnicity’. Following this study, a conceptual theory for research on sensitive issues and health care of marginalized populations was developed called ‘Screaming Silences’, which forms the foundation of The Silences Framework. ‘Screaming Silences’ define research areas and experiences that are poorly studied, little understood or silenced. Results: the Silences Framework supports researchers in revealing “silences” in the subjects they study - as such, results may reflect how beliefs, values, and experiences of some groups influence their health. This framework provides the application of four complementary stages: working the silences, hearing silences, voicing silences and working with the silences. The analysis occurs cyclically and can be repeated as long as the silences inherent in a study are not revealed. Conclusion: this article presents The Silences Framework and the application of the notion of “sounds of silence”, mapping an antiessentialist theoretical framework for its use in sensitive research in health and nursing areas, being a reference for other researchers in studies involving marginalized populations.

Aim: to analyze the content of advertising campaigns on tuberculosis produced by the Brazilian Ministry of Health in Brazil. Method: supported by the Health Promotion and Health Education benchmarks, analysis have been conducted in the campaigns carried out in the years of 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011. Results: two thematic categories resulted from the analysis: “Cough can be tuberculosis! The treatment is free and should not be interrupted!” and “The ill and the disease: an image composition in advertising campaigns.” The texts appeal for individual consciousness and self-care based on the connection among health, absence of symptoms and adopting a surveillance attitude to avoid them. The used images are constituted by elements with low representativity of the diseased person’s reality. Conclusions: these reflections contribute to the field of health and nursing, especially as they produce an ethical conscience committed to reducing vulnerabilities and protecting life

A polissemia da higienização de mãos no contexto hospitalar: com a palavra, os usuários

Carem Gorniak Lovatto; Maíra Rossetto; Dora Lúcia Leidens Corrêa de Oliveira

Aim: to analyze the meanings attributed by the people admitted to a hospital in southern Brazil to messages conveyed by posters in a campaign to promote hands hygiene. Method: qualitative, descriptive and exploratory study. Interviews were conducted with 10 patients. Data were submitted to thematic analysis based on the theoretical references of Cultural Studies. Results: the meanings assigned to the messages varied, which resulted in numerous interpretations. The users represented hand hygiene as an action that is a responsibility of the health professional to prevent the transmission of infections. Conclusion: the meanings assigned to the messages by the patients were different from the ones the campaign producers had expected, resulting on non-compatible answers to their objectives.

Recognizing up as a subject of risk: the conscience of possible harms of tuberculosis
