Relação no cuidado entre o cuidador familiar e o idoso com Alzheimer

Cross-sectional quantitative and qualitative-descriptive study, aimed to interpret the relationship in the caring of family caregivers and Alzheimers elderly sufferers, grounded in the concrete dialectic of participation according to Gabriel Marcels four precepts. The convenience sample entailed 208 family caregivers in the quantitative and 36 in the qualitative aspect. The caregivers were women (n=178, 86%), aged 22-83 years, living with the elderly (n=169, 81%), with more than eight years of formal education (n=147, 71%), not having an occupation (n=121, 58%) and with mild burden (n=96, 46.2%). The synthesis theme was The order of mystery pervaded by faith and supported by hope. The relationship between family members and Alzheimers elderly sufferer encompasses love, faithfulness, hope and presence. Interpreting this relationship enables nurses to develop sensitivity and creativity for professional practice, taking into account the subjectivity and mystery in human relations.Trata-se de estudo quantitativo, de corte transversal, e qualitativo-descritivo, cujo objetivo foi interpretar a relacao no cuidado entre cuidadores familiares e idosos com Alzheimer, alicercada na dialetica concreta da participacao segundo os quatro preceitos de Gabriel Marcel. A amostra de conveniencia foi composta de 208 cuidadores familiares na etapa quantitativa e 36 na qualitativa. Os cuidadores sao mulheres (n=178; 86%), idade entre 22 a 83 anos, residem com o idoso (n=169; 81%), tem mais de oito anos de escolaridade (n=147; 71%), nao possuem ocupacao profissional (n=121; 58%) e apresentam sobrecarga moderada (n=96; 46,2%). O tema sintese foi A ordem do misterio entremeado pela esperanca sustentada pela fe. A relacao entre o familiar e o idoso com Alzheimer envolve amor, fidelidade, esperanca e presenca. Interpretar esta relacao possibilita ao enfermeiro desenvolver a sensibilidade e a criatividade para atuacao profissional considerando a subjetividade e o misterio das relacoes humanas.

Capacidade funcional no idoso longevo: uma revisão integrativa

Trata-se de revisao integrativa da literatura, cujo objetivo foi conhecer a producao cientifica brasileira referente a capacidade funcional do idoso longevo. Foram consultadas as bases de dados BDENF, LILACS, MEDLINE e SciELO, no periodo amostral de janeiro de 2001 a setembro de 2010. Foram selecionados oito artigos, sendo os profissionais enfermeiros (4) os principais autores das publicacoes. O ano de publicacao dos artigos variou entre 2006 e 2010, e houve predominância da pesquisa quantitativa com enfoque na multidimensionalidade do idoso. Foram utilizados questionarios e escalas para avaliar a capacidade funcional dos longevos e indicados os fatores limitantes para o desempenho dessa capacidade. A producao cientifica na tematica e incipiente, o que demonstra a necessidade de novas pesquisas, com vistas a melhoria na qualidade de vida dos idosos longevos.This is an integrated literature review intended to get to know the Brazilian scientific production regarding the functional capacity of the elderly. BDENF, LILACS, MEDLINE and SciELO databases were consulted in the sampling period from January, 2001, to September, 2010. Eight articles were selected with nursing professionals (4) as the main authors of such publications. Publication year of the articles is between 2006 and 2010, with predomination of quantitative research focused on the multidimensionality of the elderly. Questionnaires and scales were used to assess the functional capacity of the elderly and constraining factors for its performance were also indicated. Scientific studies on the theme are incipient, which evidences the need for further research aiming to improve the quality of life of the elderly.

O idoso portador de nefropatia diabética e o cuidado de si

This is a qualitative, convergent care study which aims to describe self-care actions, based on care habits of the elderly with chronic renal failure, who are also diabetic nephropathy carriers in hemodialytic treatment. Data was collected and scales of functional evaluation were applied to nursing cares actions for seven elderly patients from April 26th through June 31st, 2007. Methodological proposition of the Discourse of Collective Subject was applied for arrangement and analysis of the information. Eight main ideas emerged: partially obey what it is explained; be aware of sugar, sweet candies, and use of sweeteners; obey medical orders and alternate areas of application; dependence on insulin application; keep arm from doing work; dependence for the visually deficit and lack of knowledge of medicines; nourishment control, distraction, and tranquility; tendency towards isolation. The challenge of self-care is to build independence and possibilities for open and productive communication between the elderly and their relatives.Esta es una investigacion cualitativa convergente asistencial, cuyo objetivo es describir acciones para el cuidado de si mismo, fundamentadas en los habitos de cuidado del anciano renal cronico con nefropatia diabetica en tratamiento de hemodialisis. Los datos fueron recolectados y se aplicaron escalas de evaluacion funcional concomitante a los cuidados de enfermeria, junto a siete ancianos, en el periodo de 26 de abril a 31 de junio de 2007. Para la ordenacion y el analisis de las informaciones se utilizo la proposicion metodologica del Discurso del Sujeto Colectivo. Surgieron ocho ideas centrales: obedecer parcialmente a lo que es explicado; los cuidados con el azucar, los dulces y el uso de endulzantes; obedecer a la prescripcion medica y alternar el local de la aplicacion; dependencia para la aplicacion de la insulina; mantener el brazo libre de cualquier esfuerzo; dependencia por el deficit visual y desconocimiento de los medicamentos; control alimentar, distraccion y tranquilidad; tendencia al aislamiento. El desafio para el cuidado de si esta en la construccion de la independencia y en las posibilidades de dialogos abiertos y productivos entre los ancianos y los familiares.Trata-se de pesquisa qualitativa convergente assistencial, cujo objetivo e descrever acoes de cuidados de si, alicercadas nos habitos de cuidado do idoso renal cronico portador de nefropatia diabetica, em tratamento hemodialitico. Coletaram-se dados e aplicaram-se escalas de avaliacao funcional concomitante aos cuidados de enfermagem, junto a sete idosos, no periodo de 26 de abril a 31 de junho de 2006. Para ordenacao e analise das informacoes empregou-se proposicao metodologica do Discurso do Sujeito Coletivo. Emergiram oito ideias centrais: obedecer parcialmente ao que e explicado; cuidados com acucar, doces e uso de adocante; obedecer a prescricao medica e alternar local da aplicacao; dependencia para aplicacao da insulina; manter o braco livre de qualquer esforco; dependencia pelo deficit visual e desconhecimento dos medicamentos; controle alimentar, distracao e tranquilidade; tendencia ao isolamento. O desafio para o cuidado de si esta na construcao da independencia e nas possibilidades de dialogos abertos e produtivos entre os idosos e familiares.

O desempenho de idosas institucionalizadas no miniexame do estado mental

Objective: To evaluate institutionalized elder women’s performance in the mini-mental state examination. Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted among 34 elder women who were residents in a long term facility in Curitiba, PR. Data were collected with the mini-mental state examination (MMSE) and analyzed with descriptive statistics. Results: Participants had a mean age of 79.82 ± 8.23 and their overall mean score on the MMSE was 16.62 ± 5.60. The mean score of performance among illiterates and literate participants were 14.90 and 19.75 points, respectively. The mean score of performance among participants aged 65 to 79 and participants aged 80 and over were 18 and 15.65 points, respectively. Conclusion: There were a large number of elder women (26.5%) with cognitive impairment. Lower educational level and advanced age were associated with lower scores on the mini-mental status examination.Objective: To evaluate institutionalized elder women’s performance in the mini-mental state examination. A produção científica da enfermagem e a utilização da teoria de Madeleine Leininger: revisão integrativa 1985 - 2011

Esta es una revision integradora cuyo objetivo fue reflexionar acerca de la utilizacion de la teoria de la diversidad y universalidad del cuidado cultural de Madeleine Leininger para la produccion cientifica brasilena de enfermeria. Fueron consultadas las siguientes bases de datos: Base de Datos de Enfermeria, Literatura Latinoamericana y de Caribe en Ciencias de la Salud y Scientific Electronic Library Online en el periodo de enero de 1985 hasta enero de 2011. Fueron seleccionados 62 articulos de los cuales se ha elegido cuatro grupos de acuerdo a la semejanza metodologica: 16,12% de relatos de experiencia; 45,16% de procesos investigativos; 22,58 % de reflexion y 16,12% de revision sobre la teoria de Leininger. Se constato que se utiliza la teoria para favorecer la propuesta del cuidado holistico en enfermeria y la intencion de conocer y respetar la cultura de los clientes para que las acciones de la enfermera lleguen al resultado esperado. Suscita gran contribucion porque trae reflexiones y delinea orientaciones para la practica de enfermeria.

INDEPENDÊNCIA FUNCIONAL EM IDOSOS LONGEVOS NA ADMISSÃO HOSPITALAR

The aim of this quantitative cross-sectional study was to assess the functional independence of long-living elderly at the time of hospitalization. The study was conducted in two teaching hospitals, in the period between January and June of 2011, with 116 long-living elderly. The Functional Independence Measure Scale was applied for data collection and data analyses were performed using descriptive statistics. The score of the total Functional Independence Measure varied from 48 to 126, with a mean of 105.9% (±17.9), which represents functional independence. The motor Functional Independence Measurement of 30 to 91 (77.3%; ±14.5) and the social/cognitive Functional Independence Measurement of 18 to 35 (28.6%; ±4.9). At the hospital admission, the long-living elderly appeared to be independent in all of the Functional Independence Measurement domains. Knowing the functional capacity is essential to plan care throughout the entire hospitalization process. DESCRIPTORS: Aged 80 and over. Longevity. Hospitalization. Geriatric nursing.
