The aim of the paper is to analyze the variation of the average labor compensation in Brazil between the years 2005 and 2009 to different sectors of the economy and different labor skills. In order to do so, it was applied the structural decomposition technique to the data from the input-output table and socio-economic accounts relative to Brazilian economy, found on World Input-Output database. The results show an increase by 25.79% in average labor compensation for the period. From the technological factor, the most important effect was intensity factor, whose behavior was instable between different sectors, generating usually better benefits to low-skilled labor. As for the final demand variation factor, the predominant effect was the final demand volume effect, which created homogeneous benefits in labor compensation for both different sectors of the economy and different skilled labors.

The objective of this paper is to analyze the employment variation in primary sector between the years 2000-2009 in Brazil. We used the methodology of input-output through the structural decomposition of the employment variation divided into effects of employment intensity, technology, demand structure, demand growth and total net variation. The main results showed that between the periods studied, there was a decrease of 773 thousand jobs in the sector of Agriculture and Extraction. We also find that the Agriculture, Forestry and Lumbering, and Livestock and Fishing sectors were the responsible for the employment decrease through the intensity effect. Looking at the total job variation, we found out that a significant amount of jobs were created in the Oil and Natural Gas and Iron sectors. Despite of that, and mostly because these sectors have a minor participation in the Brazilian primary sector, this employment increase was not enough to counterbalance the job decrease in the other sectors.

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the spatial distribution of rural poverty in brazilian municipalities and the relationship between rural population and poverty rate in 2000 and 2010. For this, the work utilizes the Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis to identify the bivariate morans I coefficient, the scatter plot, the significance map and ultimately the cluster map of the municipalities variables. The data were collected in the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) through the censuses of 2000 and 2010. It was found that between 2000 and 2010 there was a small increase in the positive spatial correlation between the percentage of rural population and poverty rate to brazilian municipalities. The conclusion of this paper is that the cities in which they concentrate a large rural population continue to show a high rate of poverty, confirming the hypothesis that the rural population has difficulty benefit from policies for combating poverty because of poor access to this information and the physical distance. On the other hand, there are indications that the National Family Farming Strengthening Program (PRONAF) emerges as a policy that can contribute to minimize its effects, even if slowly reduce rural poverty.

This study aims to estimate the corn export supply function for Brazil from 2001 to 2012. For this analysis we developed a theoretical model estimated using the cointegration and vector error correction model (VEC). The variables used were: corn exports, international corn price, poultry slaughters, soybean prices and world GDP. The results obtained showed the existence of long-term relationship between the variables. The international corn price, poultry slaughters, soybean prices and world GDP had a significant impact on corn exports, showing signs as expected by the theoretical model. There was a positive impact on corn exports after an unanticipated shock in the soybean price and negative impact after a not anticipated shock the slaughter of poultry. In relation to the international price, it was found that a shock in this variable has a negative impact on corn exports. In order to assess the relationships between the domestic price and the international price of corn, there was the weak exogeneity test between the variables and it was found that, despite this market still does not have the Law of One Price, changes in the international corn price affect the domestic price.

This paper investigates the ratio between real exchange rate and chicken meat prices in Brazil, from 2008 to 2012. The Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) was applied. The results show a long-run ratio between the real exchange rate and the frozen broiler price – cointegration. However, evidences of the chicken meat price sensibility to the exchange rate are weak for the analyzed period. On the other hand, the paper suggests the evidence of the commodity currency. The paper highlights the importance of analyzing effects of the frozen chick meat on exchange rate in Brazil in the recent period.
