The optimization of processing parameters on warpage of polypropylene (PP) in the application of injection moulding machine was studied. The appropriate parameters were adjusted to reduce the warpage defect on the tensile test specimen of dumbbell. The type of injection moulding machine used in this research is Arburg 420C 800-250C. Four parameters that have been investigated; injection pressure, clamping pressure, back pressure and holding pressure. A concept of design of experiment (DOE) has been applied using Taguchi method to determine the suitable parameters. To measure the warpage of the dumbbell, digital height gauge was used to measure the flatness of the part surface. According the analysis of variance (ANOVA), the most significant factor that effect the warpage was holding pressure by 57.82%, followed with back pressure by 25.75%, clamping pressure by 16.27% and injection pressure by 0.16%. It is found that the optimum parameters setting that have been obtained were injection pressure at 950 bar, clamping pressure at 600 kN, holding pressure at 700 bar and back pressure at 75 bar. The depreciation value of warpage minimum index in this experiment was decreased by 4.6% after confirmation run.

The application of Taguchi method to reduce warpage in an injection moulding process is studied. The objective of this paper is to analyze the effect of injection moulding parameters, i.e., injection time, packing time, melt temperature and mould temperature, on the warpage defect in dumbbell plastics part. Optical comparator horizontal type was used to measure the difference of warpage value on each part. L9 orthogonal array with 3 replications was done with 27 totals of specimens. The result collected was optimized using Taguchi method and percentage of contribution was calculated using analysis of variance (ANOVA). According to the analysis, it is found that the significant factors affected warpage are injection time (32.01%), packing time (29.73%), mould temperature (24.39%) and melt temperature (13.87%). The optimum parameters for minimizing the warpage were injection time (1s), packing time (5s), melt temperature (270 °C) and the mould temperature (21 °C). By using Taguchi method and ANOVA analysis, optimum parameters and the percentage of contribution of parameters can be obtained. Thus, it shows that design of experiment method is the good quality tools to get the best quality for production.

The main problem associate with the machining of thin-wall component is the wall deflection which resulting in dimensional surface error that leads to part rejection. The magnitude of wall deflection is induced by the cutting force generated during the material removal process which is governed mainly from the selection of cutter path strategies. Therefore, it is necessary to judge the machining performance of a different cutter path prior to actual machining. In this paper, the machining accuracy of three cutter path strategies namely waterline-step, overlapping-step and tree wise-steps for machining thin-wall component were investigated. It was found that there is a variation in wall accuracy for different cutter path strategies. Based on the experimental results waterline cutter path produced the least surface error followed by overlapping and tree-wise steps.

This endeavor proposes the development of a new computer-aided design (CAD) system given name as Packaging-Computer Aided Design (PackCAD). This system is proposed with a special intention and attention to support the design process of packaging food products by Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) irrespective of the minimum skills in handling a computers. Users are only required to select the pull-place (drag-drop) packaging form made in the template (stored in the data library) PackCAD in standard form or set free to change or resize the form according to the needs of food produced. The design constructed using PackCAD can be easily saved and opened to other CAD system.

Mobile communication technology is one of the most popular and important communications at this moment. The field of robotics includes various sectors such as factory sector, manufacturing and security. This paper presents the utilization of different mobile technology for mobile robot controller such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or Wireless LAN and 3G. Comparison of the frequency, data rate and range for each mobile technology used in this application are discussed. For future work, we propose the development of mobile robot controller via mobile technology, which is 3G technology. The results of this research are expected to provide benefits to consumers and mobile device manufacturers to optimize the usability of mobile devices.

resource planning (ERP) system implementations hold great potential for institutions of higher learning (IHL) despite of many literatures have shown that there are many failures during the implementation process. A further understanding of the proposed implementation framework of ERP system for private IHL in Malaysian environment that leads to the successful of the ERP system implementation would be beneficial. In this study, researcher has implemented the validation on the developed implementation framework and the result on the validation is based on the approval from all eight experts after implementing the two rounds of Delphi technique.

This paper details the application of Taguchi method to determine the effect of cutter geometrical features for machining Polyetheretherketones (PEEK) thermoplastic. The planned experiment was conducted by using Taguchi’s orthogonal array taking into account the ball nose geometrical parameters such as helix angle, rake angle, clearance angle and number of flute. The measured response is the machined surface roughness, which is important for the component functionality. In addition, ANOVA was used to validate the percentage contribution of each factor. The obtained results reveals that, less number of flutes is the main factor contributed towards fine surface roughness for this thermoplastic. Fewer flutes provide a smooth flow of chip ejection and minimize the friction on the cutting zone which is vital for polymeric material such as PEEK. High helix and rake angles also influence the machined surface roughness as both angles provide optimum shearing force to produced better surface finishing. However, it is found that clearance angle is less significant on roughness since the function of clearance angle is to control the process damping and stability. The main conclusion of this study is that there is significant effect on the cutter geometrical feature on machining performance and thus conclude the need of special design cutter for effectively machining PEEK plastic.

A Study on Information Extraction Method of Engineering Drawing Tables

Riza Sulaiman; Mohd Fahmi Mohamad Amran; Nur Amlya Abd Majid

In getting an existing engineering drawing to be reuse, the first step to be done is to search for the appropriate file. To get the desired drawing, an engineer will have to access every file. This procedure consumed much time and energy as there might be lots of files and folders related to the drawings. To ease engineers search for old engineering drawings, the extraction of the table structure has to be done. This paper describes review on recent research in extraction of engineering drawing tables. Along the way of this reviewing process, the weakness and downside of previous researches has been identified. General Terms Information Extraction
