This paper aims to characterise and discuss Total Quality Management approaches that have being disseminated in the Brazilian industry. As a general conclusion, the approach is top-down, policy deployment is hardly utilised, relations with suppliers are changing, and some organisational changes have been introduced along with quality programs, as reduction of hierarchical layers. But the organisational background remains very close to the classical (tayloristic) one.

This article, the result of a Masters thesis, has as the main objective to investigate how trainee-engineers from the Advanced Training Program for Engineers (ATPE), from a Brazilian organization called Challenge, working in multidisciplinary teams with the help of mentors, interact and mobilize their knowledge, resulting in learning. To accomplish this, a Theoretical Reference Model based on the studies of Nonaka and Takeuchi (1997); Crossan, Lane and White (1999); Choo (2000, 2001); Garvin (2002); Schwartz (2003); Zietsma, Winn, Branzei and Vertinsky (2002); Senge (2006) and Castaneda, Rios (2007) and Perez-Acosta (2005) was built. The data of this qualitative study case was garnered by an open questionnaire, individual interviews and questionnaires with a closed scale, applied in October and November of 2008. The results show that ATPE is seen as a proper driver of the mobilization, interaction and exchange of knowledge between trainee-engineers and mentors, resulting in learning at individual and group levels. Mentors are professionals that stimulate attention, autonomy and promote integration in an environment that simulates the business one. These aspects were seen as facilitators of the interaction and learning in ATPE. At the end, 18 notions were related to learning in ATPE and appear portrayed in an Empirical Representation done by authors.

Data were collected through documentary research, with the use of participant observation, meetings of validation and analysis of the data, as well as semi-structured interviews. Work situations and its complexities had been analyzed, getting the agreement on important aspects related to how workers belonging to the analyzed sector interact between them as well as with work situations, understanding the uses of itself of the same ones in the accomplishment of its activities.

The article aims to reveal the process of career development of tax auditors of the Brazilian Inland Revenue (auditores fiscais da Receita Federal do Brasil), from changes in the social and professional context and how these changes have contributed to the construction of a professional identity of these servers. The aim is to understand how the political-economic context is changing the perceptions that these professionals have of themselves and how the reforms transformed the way in which the tax auditors carry out their functions. The research resulting from a quantitative-qualitative transaction proposal made it possible to explore, in accordance with the theory of Claude Dubar, relevant aspects in the continuous process of construction of professional identities. Knowledge of the work and forms of identification of tax auditors at the Brazilian Inland Revenue may contribute to reflections on work relationships and processes of public management in Brazil.

Through the analysis of a model Integrated Center of Citizenship, established in Vitoria, and of the organizations that preceded, we try, in this article: to identify the services which must be present in an urban organization of this nature, having in mind the governamental instruments that originated its conception: to categorize the services identified according to some of the principal classifications present in specific literature (Chase, 1978; Lovelock, 1983; Schemenner, 1986); to discuss the units of service as part of a process of production induced by the client, in the light of the basic strutures proposed by Wild (1977); to direct the focus of the approach to the units that are concerned with the pacific solutions of conflicts, confronting its technical and social subsystems with the pressupositions of the Sociotechnical School (Biazzi Jr, 1994); to compare the actuations of these units with the job design for semi-autonomous (Cherns, 1994) and, finally, to comment on the importance of the structuring of these units as self-sufficient managed groups, showing that this approach contributes, to a great extent, to the operational integration and management of these units.
