This article studies the interpersonal and symbolic violence experienced at work directed at lesbians, transvestites and transsexuals. However, to accomplish its purpose, we had to analyze the violence experienced by the subjects in their broader social context, involving family issues, among others; extending the analysis beyond the formal work environment. Sixty-five subjects were interviewed, using the field diary technique to produce data. Analysis was performed via Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), with Fairclough (1992, 1995) adopted as the main approach. We conclude that respondents suffer various forms of symbolic violence, the fruit of symbolic domination, which are established in a particular way in each of the groups studied. The interpersonal violence experienced at work is closely related to the forms of symbolic violence related to each group, and occur with greater intensity for transvestites because they are more likely to suffer from and be subject to interpersonal violence through physical aggression, a fact that puts their physical integrity and l ives at risk.

The Analytical Queer commonly related to gender studies is a recent conceptual approach. Thus, this article aims primarily to bring out this little explored perspective on the critical analysis of the organizational field. The main concepts and principles related to the ideas contained in queer thought are presented, and the main differences between the analytical queer studies and modernist studies about gender are discussed. The Analytical Queer is based on Foucault concepts about post-identity and fragmentation that substitutes the hegemonic thinking of identity/binary in sexuality and gender studies, this post-identity vision is essential for the development of resistance and development of organizational local practices and may promote an action and intervention in the face of oppressive practices directed not only sexuality but also to other forms of oppression in the workplace. We conclude that the emancipation of the hegemonic practice of contemporary power lies in the post-identity and non-binary world as a possible contribution to the construction of a new social reality in organizations, a reality which can combat the bio-power related devices not only about sexuality, but also to other power devices.

This paper aims at analyzing ontological and epistemological aspects related to postmodernity, to understand if postmodernity consists of ontology, epistemology or both of them, verifying, thus, possible misunderstandings with regard to its use in organizational studies. To accomplish this task, there is also a need for analyzing the main differences between postmodernity, structuralism, and post-structuralism. One notices that, generally, the definition of postmodernity oscillates between two poles: (1) historical period, time, and social ethos; (2) theoretical perspective, epistemology, intellectual and philosophical tradition. Finally, one observes the following mistakes in the organizational studies related to postmodernity: (1) to define postmodernity as a theoretical movement, a school of thought; (2) to treat post-structuralism as a synonym of postmodernity, and vice-versa; (3) to assign characteristics to postmodernity that actually concern post-structuralism; and (4) to disregard structuralism in their analysis on postmodernity.

The purpose of this article is to identify and analyze social representations of femininity and masculinity, as reported by women business executives in Brazil. For that, the research resorted to semi-structured interviews of sixty-four executives from seven Brazilian cities. As a technique for data analysis, this research utilized the theoretical and conceptual basis of French discourse analysis. When gender issues become related to the specific qualities of being a woman and a business executive - or to the interfaces that gender may establish with an individuals work - contradictions may emerge from the construction of a particular thematic. Also, positive and negative aspects of being a female executive exist, namely: (a) representations of an executive; (b) feminine competency and incompetency; (c) dilemmas regarding sensitivity; (d) conflicts involving seduction power; (e) omissions, prejudice and violence suffered by women at work; and (f) motherhood.

The aim of this article is to understand the relationship between the meanings of social practices and strategy creation used by the produce merchants in Vila Rubim, Vitoria, ES, from 1970 to the present time. To provide empirical evidence of the conceptual framework that was developed, we conducted a case study. The data gathered from the documents and interviews were treated using discourse analysis, and those obtained from observations were treated using content analysis. The possibility and the act of approaching the neighboring merchants customer is the link that joins the homonymous strategy and tactic, but the process in each of them has different implications (strengthening or transgressing the established order) and develops in different and dynamic ways. Thus, the denomination of strategies and practices is dynamic, relational and temporary because the focus is on the process that permeates each strategy and its articulations in the practices and meanings in each flow. In their socio-historic process, the produce merchants in the VR Market articulate various flows. Among them, the empirical investigation identified fourteen flows, nine as strategies and five as tactics, according to the social references assumed in the analysis.

The main goal of this article is to analyze the relationship involving subjectivity, embodiment, and labor activity among travestis and transsexuals. We recognize that bodies are invested by various discourses and power relations, which produce normal and abnormal bodies in society, establishing the intelligibility of the body through gender categories. Beyond that, the body is an active element in the production of one’s subjectivity. Transgender people are considered abnormal in the binary gender matrix of intelligibility, which makes them more susceptible to be stigmatized, discriminated, and socially excluded. As for labor, it has been observed that the bodies of travestis and transsexuals may represent an obstacle for the obtaining of formal jobs. The main goal of this article is to analyze the relationship involving subjectivity, embodiment, and labor activity among travestis and transsexuals.
