Amyloidosis cutis dyschromica: a case treated with acitretin.

We report a case of amyloidosis cutis dyschromica with diffuse postinflammatory‐type hypo‐ and hyperpigmentation all over the body. The diagnosis was confirmed with routine light microscopic and immunohistochemical staining methods. The patient was treated with acitretin with a good response.

A Case of Lupus Vulgaris with Unusual Location

Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the oldest diseases of our planet; today, it still is a serious medicosocial problem in both developing and developed countries. Cutaneous tuberculosis is part of the small percentage of extrapulmonary forms of the disease and has considerable morphological variability. It is often confused with various cutaneous disorders and some other granulomatous processes of the skin. Here, we present a case of long‐standing and atypically‐located lupus vulgaris in an old man. The patient was successfully treated with triple antituberculous therapy.

Intertriginous plasmacytosis with plasmoacanthoma: report of a typical case and review of the literature

Clinical manifestations of benign (reactive) plasma cell proliferations of the skin and mucosa consist of a relatively rare and distinct group in dermatologic disorders. They have generally been named according to their localization. We report a typical case of mucocutaneous plasmacytosis located on intertriginous areas of the skin as well as mucosa with a perianal tumoral mass diagnosed as plasmoacanthoma. To our knowledge, this is the first detailed case report, at least in English literature.

Efficacy of Micronized Flavonoid Fraction in Healing of Clean and Infected Wounds.

Purified micronized flavonoid fraction, comprising 90% diosmin and 10% hesperidin, is basically used as a phelebotonic and vasculoprotector agent. It also has anti-inflammatory and anti-edematous actions. This study was designed to evaluate the efficacy of micronized flavonoid fraction in clean and infectious wounds. Sixty Guinea pigs were separated into 2 main groups and 6 subgroups. The first three groups had clean wounds and the other three groups had infected wounds contaminated withS. aureus. Then these main groups were separated into 3 subgroups. The first subgroups was treated with 60 mg/kg/day micronized flavonoid fraction per oral, the second ones was treated with topical 60 mg/kg/day micronized flavonoid fraction, and the thrid ones had no treatment. Infected wounds were obtained by contamining the wounds withS. aureus. There were no significant differences in wound healing between the groups that have clean wounds (p>0.05). In the groups with infected wounds, orally and topically treated guina pigs had accelerated wound healing compared to the untreated control group (p<0.05), confirmed with surface area measurements and histopathological evaluation. Healing showed no difference between the groups treated orally and topically. This study showed that oral or topical administration of micronized flavonoid fraction in the infected wounds is beneficial, while it has no significant effect in clean wounds.

The effect of Na + -K + ATPase inhibition by ouabain on histamine release from human cutaneous mast cells

Background: There are controversial reports on the effect of sodium-potassium adenosine triphosphatase (Na+-K+ ATPase) inhibition on mast cell mediator release. Some of them have indicated that ouabain (strophanthin G), a specific Na+-K+ ATPase inhibitor, inhibited the release, whereas the others have shown that ouabain had no effect or even had a stimulatory effect on the mediator secretion. Most of these studies have utilized animal-derived mast cells. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of Na+-K+ ATPase inhibition on human skin mast cells.Methods: Unpurified and purified mast cells were obtained from newborn foreskins and stimulated by calcium ionophore A23187 (1 μM) for 30 min following a 1 hr incubation with various concentrations (10−4 to 10−8 M) of ouabain. Histamine release was assayed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).Results: The results indicated that ouabain had no significant effect on the non-immunologic histamine release from human skin mast cells, in vitro.Conclusions: Na+-K+ ATPase inhibition by ouabain had no significant effect on the non-immunologic histamine release from human cutaneous mast cells and suggested differences between human and animal mast cells.

A case of sporotrichosis treated with itraconazole

Lymphocutaneous sporotrichosis is caused by Sporothrix schenckii, a dimorphic fungus commonly existing on decaying plants and in the soil. The fungus has a worldwide distribution but is more prevalent in temperate and tropical climates. Infection may result from traumatic inoculation of contaminated material such as soil, hay, moss, plant debris, splinters, thorns and barbs. Inoculation is also possible through some animal scratches and bites. We describe a typical case of lymphocutaneous sporotrichosis, which was confirmed by clinical, histological and microbiological features. The patient was successfully treated with 400 mg daily systemic itraconazole for 4 months.
