Abstract. The aim of this paper is to summarize the general status of our understanding of small-x physics. It is based on presentations and discussions at an informal meeting on this topic held in Lund, Sweden, in March 2001. This document also marks the founding of an informal collaboration between experimentalists and theoreticians with a special interest in small-x physics. This paper is dedicated to the memory of Bo Andersson, who died unexpectedly from a heart attack on March 4th, 2002.The aim of this paper is to summarize the general status of our understanding of small-x physics. collisions are considered within the semihard approach in QCD. The dependence of the cross section for heavy-quark production, σ(pT>pTmin), on unintegrated gluon distributions is studied. The results of this consideration are compared with experimental data obtained by the D0 and CDF Collaborations at Tevatron.

Prompt charmonia production and polarization at LHC in the NRQCD with k_T-factorization. Part I: \psi (2S) meson

S. P. Baranov; A. V. Lipatov; Nikolai P. Zotov

The FELIX Collaboration proposes the construction of a full acceptance detector for the LHC, to be located at Intersection Region 4, and to be commissioned concurrently with the LHC. The primary mission of FELIX is the study of QCD: to provide comprehensive and definitive observations of a very broad range of strong-interaction processes. This document contains a description of the detector concept including details of the individual detector elements and their performance characteristics, an extensive discussion of the physics menu, and the plans for integration of FELIX into the collider lattice and physical environment.

Heavy Quark Production at the TEVATRON in the Semihard QCD Approach and the Unintegrated Gluon Distribution

A. V. Lipatov; V. A. Saleev; Nikolai P. Zotov

We calculate the cross section of beauty production in ep deep inelastic scattering at HERA collider in the framework of the kT-factorization approach. The unintegrated gluon distributions in a proton are obtained from the full CCFM, from unified BFKL-DGLAP evolution equations as well as from the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin prescription. We investigate different production rates and study the b-quark contribution to the inclusive proton structure function F2(x, Q 2 ) at small x and at moderate and high values of Q 2 . Our theoretical results are compared with the recent experimental data taken by the H1 and ZEUS collaborations. We demonstrate the importance of leading ln1/x contributions in description of the HERA data.

We present calculations of charm and beauty production at Tevatron within the framework of k(T)-factorization, using the unintegrated gluon distributions as obtained from the Linked Dipole Chain model. The analysis covers transverse momentum and rapidity distributions and the azimuthal correlations between b and (b) over bar quarks (or rather muons from their decay) which are powerful tests for the different unintegrated gluon distributions. We compare the theoretical results with recent experimental data taken by DO and CDF collaborations at the Tevatron Run I and II.

Double heavy meson production through double parton scattering

S. P. Baranov; Nikolai P. Zotov; Alexander Snigirev

The inelastic photo-and electroproduction of J/ψ mesons at the HERA collider are considered within the semihard (kT-factorization) QCD approach and the color-singlet model. The total, differential, and double-differential cross sections for the inelastic production of J/ψ mesons are investigated versus the Pomeron intercept Δ, which is the basic parameter of low-x physics; also studied here is the spin alignment parameter α versus the square of the transverse momentum, pψT2, and the variable z. The theoretical results obtained in the present study are compared with the latest experimental data of the H1 and ZEUS Collaborations. It is shown that experimental investigations of the polarization properties of J/ψ mesons at the HERA collider for Q2<1 GeV2 may provide an additional test of the Balitsky-Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov dynamics of gluon distributions.
