Recently Silicon Photonics has generated an outstanding interest for integrated optical communications. In this paper we describe a 300mm Silicon Photonics platform designed for 25Gb/s and above applications at the three typical communication wavelengths and compatible with 3D integration. Main process features and device results are described.

We address the effects of packaging on performance, reliability and cost of photonic devices. For silicon photonics we address some specific packaging aspects. Finally we propose an approach for integration of photonics and ASICs.

A low cost 28Gbits/s Silicon Photonics platform using 300mm SOI wafers is demonstrated. Process, 3D integration of Electronic and Photonic ICs, device performance, circuit results and low cost packaging are discussed.

In this paper we discuss design and characterization of silicon-photonics-based 100 Gbps (4×26 Gbps) transceivers for parallel single mode fiber communication. We also address some key underlying technologies including silicon photonics wafer processing, photonic device libraries, light source integration and packaging technologies.

We report polarization splitting grating couplers on double-SOI substrates with loss below 2 dB, optimized polarization dependence and excellent manufacturability. We illustrate the optimization of the scatterers with electromagnetic simulations.
