Qualitative study that aimed to analyze the reasons why the tuberculosis patients abandon treatment in the metropolitan region of Joao Pessoa-PB. Was used as a theoretical to comprehensive care. Data were collected from October to November 2008, by means of semi-structured interview. Participated nine users who abandoned the treatment of tuberculosis. In the identification of the units of meaning, the technique of analyzis of content was used. The results show inconsistencies related to the holistic care of the sick, when it comes to doctrinal guidelines of the Unified Health, the consideration of socio-cultural context of the user with tuberculosis and the weaknesses in continuity of care, and the inadequate monitoring by the network of health care. These aspects, complicate the construction of a network of care and support for tuberculosis patients and their families, contributing to the abandonment of tuberculosis treatment. DESCRIPTORS: Tuberculosis. Primary attention to health. Refusal of the patient to the treatment.

PURPOSE To analyze the discourse of speech language pathologists regarding the practice developed at Family Health Support Centers (FHSC) based on the concepts of center and field in Collective Health. METHODS A qualitative investigation was conducted between April 2011 and June 2011 with 12 speech language pathologists working at the FHSCs of different municipalities of Paraíba. The empirical material was obtained by means of semi-directed interviews and analyzed through the French Discourse Analysis. RESULTS Regarding the work of speech language pathologists, the curative perspective prevails, exercised through individual rehabilitation initiatives. Health promotion activities are focused on education and aimed at changing the behavior of individuals and specific groups through lectures and group formation. We verified difficulties to develop teamwork and problems of interaction among the professionals at the various FHSCs. These difficulties disregard the guidelines of the Ministry of Health in relation to the organization of work processes. The participants charged the managers with lack of knowledge about their jobs and remained silent about intersectoral actions and the empowerment of the population, which are consistent with the modern concept of health promotion. CONCLUSION The work of speech language pathologists at FHSCs in the municipalities of Paraíba has been revealed from a nuclear perspective. In order for it to be effective from the perspective of Collective Health, the barriers that prevent the intersection between center and field must be analyzed.

Introduction: The use of psychoactive substances is an ancient and universal practice, which accompanies the history of humanity. Currently, the crack spread across the world because it has greater potential for addiction compared to other drugs since users find it difficult to stop the use of crack and cope with craving and anxiety. It is essential to have a multidisciplinary and comprehensive approach to the user, with the use of cognitive-behavioral techniques that address the relapse prevention strategies. In this context, the cooperative games (CGs) and the relaxation breathing (RB) are possible strategies for therapeutic management. Objectives: To evaluate the use of CG and RB as craving and anxiety coping strategies in crack users in addiction situation. Methods: This is an exploratory research, almost experimental, with a quantitative approach, developed in a detoxification unit for chemical dependence in the state of Paraíba. Results: The sample consisted of 40 crack addict volunteers older than 18 years. To evaluate the effects of CG and RB on craving and anxiety the following instruments were used: Cocaine Craving Questionnaire-Brief (CCQ-B) and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-E). The results showed that the CG and RB reduced the scores of the total craving and anxiety. As for the F1 factor, only CG showed satisfactory results. Conclusion: CG and RB demonstrated efficacy as coping strategies for craving and anxiety in crack users in addiction situation in the conditions under which the study was developed.
