A theoretical framework for postponement concept in a supply chain

Postponement can be understood as a way to change the form, identity, or location of products at the latest possible point in time and can be applied at different levels in the supply chain. A detailed theoretical framework that can assist companies in adopting, consolidating, and evaluating this strategy is not available in the literature. The aim of this paper is to propose a model approach to the postponement concept based on drivers, steps for implementation, and performance measures. This study used a qualitative approach and the theoretical-conceptual method focused on the literature review and the development of new theories on the adoption of the postponement strategy. The time frame of the study included articles on the subject between 1950 and 2012. A theoretical framework that shows the variables and steps required to implement the postponement strategy was created.

LINKING EXTERNAL INTEGRATION TO SUPPLY CHAIN RISK REDUCTION AND PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES: AN EMPIRICAL STUDY

O objetivo deste artigo e apresentar uma revisao bibliografica, que possa ser considerada completa e inedita na literatura cientifica nacional, tendo como foco modelos para gestao de riscos em cadeias de suprimentos. Para tanto, foram revisados 103 artigos cientificos publicados entre 2000 e 2012. Inicialmente, buscou-se categorizar os tipos de riscos abordados nos artigos cientificos segundo a descricao proposta por Christopher e Peck (2004), a saber: internos a empresa focal (operacoes, processo e controle); externos para a empresa focal, mas internos para a cadeia (fornecimento e demanda); e externos a cadeia (macroambiente). Buscou-se, tambem, identificar as etapas elementares na composicao de um modelo para gestao de riscos em cadeias de suprimentos. Uma vez categorizados os tipos de riscos e identificadas as quatro etapas elementares, efetuou-se uma analise a partir de tres perspectivas: i) as opcoes de modelos disponiveis na literatura para a pratica de tal gestao, considerando-se os tipos de riscos e etapas que os compoem; ii) um modelo final a ser proposto; e iii) elementos que podem ser acrescentados ao modelo final. As principais contribuicoes deste trabalho dizem respeito a possibilitar melhor entendimento dos tipos de riscos que podem incidir sobre uma cadeia de suprimentos, discutir os modelos mais adequados para geri-los, alem de oferecer diretrizes para futuras pesquisas na tematica em questao.
