Home appliances controlling through Smart TV set-top box with screen-mirroring remote controller

Junghak Kim; Seungchul Kim; Sang-Taick Park; Jin-Woo Hong

The legacy TV is now being replaced by IP-connected Smart TV which offers more advanced computing ability and connectivity. Smart TV also allows the user to install and run more advanced applications based on a specific platform. Smart TV is expected to play the role of a hub which combines wide variety of solutions for digital living services in home in the near future. In this paper, we present a home appliance control framework based on Smart TV set-top box. The purpose of this framework is to keep users leaning back and watching TV screen and then to provide them with an intuitive and convenient way to monitor and control home appliances. The proposed framework supports not only IP-based but also conventional RS-485-based home appliances.

GUI screen-sharing smart remote control for smart TV user interface

Seungchul Kim; Sang-Taick Park; Jin-Woo Hong

The old-fashioned TV, which has captivated the eye of billions of people around the world with just a few functions for a long time, is now being replaced by IP-connected Smart TV which has armed with powerful software platform and high performance hardware resources and allows users to install and run a variety of applications. In such a situation, it would be necessary to be given more effective way for users to interact with the Smart TV which has much more complex UI. In this paper, we present screen-sharing smart remote control system for Smart TV user interface, which supports touch-based interaction such as pointing, drawing, drag&drop and etc.

A fast-serial finite field multiplier without increasing the number of registers

Wonjong Kim; Seungchul Kim; Hanjin Cho; Kwang-youb Lee

In this paper, an efficient architecture for the finite field multiplier is proposed. As conventional LFSR (Linear Feedback Shift Registers) architecture need as many registers as speedup factor, the proposed architecture can achieve fast multiplication without increasing the number of registers by sharing the result register for even and odd bits. Modular cells are designed for easy implementation of the multiplier. The experimental results show that the proposed multiplier is 2 times faster than the serial LFSR multiplier with the same number of registers. The low power feature of the proposed multiplier has a big advantage for power critical application including smart card cryptography processors.

Components for bidirectional augmented broadcasting services on smart TVs

Gyuhyun Hwang; Sanghun Park; Seungchul Kim

We present the core components to support bidirectional augmented broadcasting services on smart TVs. These components are considered to be very significant for next-generation media services. The key modules used in our proposed system provide users with special functions, allowing them to insert graphic models into common broadcasting contents themselves. Efficiently encoding the tracking information of both the position and orientation of the cameras and the light sources used during an entire video production is the most critical task at the transmitting side. The information is stored in a predefined rendering profile format and is used to render inserted objects photo-realistically and combine them with the original broadcasting contents at the receiving side. We employ cutting-edge techniques developed in the field of computer graphics to display the composed contents seamlessly on smart TVs. This new broadcasting service paradigm will satisfy the needs of high-end users who expect to play the role of content producers.
