This study intends to contribute for reflection around Brazilian nursing professional identity. For this purpose the subject was rescued from images built up on the knowledge related to identity, nursing professionalization and the blacks in Brazil. It is considered that representations of native inferiority, raised for blacks, have favored the exclusion of black women from the professional nursing education. Based on historical analysis and pertinent documentation, preserved at the Historical-Cultural Center for the Iberian-American Nursing, particularly the admittance forms, outcomes allow to state that the University of Sao Paulo, School of Nursing, has provided the inclusion of men and black women into the professional nursing, thus re-dimensioning the Brazilian Nursing identity.

The objective of this study was to reflect on the legal and ethical aspects for the practice of acupuncture by nurses in Brazil. There is a need for nurses to be involved on a task force to create legal regulations and establish the scope of practice of acupuncture. This will prevent the restriction of the practice of acupuncture only to a specific health care professional group.

This paper is an outcome of a survey on nursing records, made in 2005, through the University of São Paulo, School of Nursing, data basis called Perienf. It aimed at describing data according to categories and analyse themes most cited in the content of the nursing records. Content analysis by Bardin was utilized for this technical analysis of 51 selected texts from 1957 to 2005. There was a progressive growth of studies on the subject, being descriptive records the most studied and discussed. However this nursing action is being kept as a mechanical act, with scarce content and without reflecting nursing care effectively delivered to patient.
