The internationalization of the software market: opportunities and challenges for brazilian companies

This paper deals with the potential for internationalization of the Brazilian software industry from the perspective of software developers and service providers. The purpose of the study conducted was to better understand the way Brazilian software companies relate to the international software market by comparing the perceptions of entrepreneurs and those of government agency officials responsible for increasing Brazils participation in the international software market. Data collection took place by means of semi-structured interviews with entrepreneurs and government agency officials. The data gathered was subjected to content analysis. Results show that Brazilian software companies perform poorly with regard to levels of exporting their products and services for a number of reasons, among which the most outstanding is that they still think that the internal market offers enough challenges and opportunities.

A recomendação MMOG/LE: uma análise da influência prática de sua adoção na melhoria de processos logísticos

) em suas empresas, responderam a um questionario com perguntas de escala Likert. Foi utilizado um conjuntos de variaveis constituido por 32 perguntas elaboradas de forma a cobrir as diversas areas de preocupacao da MMOG-LE e os processos logisticos a elas relacionados, na tentativa de compreender a sua influencia na melhoria dos processos logisticos das empresas pesquisadas, a partir da percepcao dos respondentes. Tambem se buscou identificar “dimensoes logisticas” em torno das quais os participantes percebem contribuicao mais efetiva da MMOG/LE. O principal resultado consistiu na identificacao de tres dimensoes logisticas valorizadas pelos respondentes. Os respondentes evidenciaram ter percepcoes alinhadas para tres grupos (fatores) de variaveis: (1) preocupacoes com os processos produtivos e logisticos; (2) preocupacoes com os detalhes do relacionamento com os clientes; e (3) preocupacoes com uma visao sistemica da importância das operacoes e logistica no contexto de suas organizacoes e com o alinhamento dos objetivos funcionais a estrategia das empresas. Os respondentes consideram que a MMOG/LE foi mais importante no sentido de proporcionar a visao sistemica sobre os processos logisticos, tao necessaria quando estes comecam a ficar mais complexos e envolver uma quantidade maior de partes envolvidas.

This paper sought to identify the themes of Operations Management that are currently valued by automotive manufacturers in the creation, use and dissemination of new production concepts. For such, it conducted a content analysis of documents that drive the production systems adopted by the four major manufacturers, with plants in the city of Curitiba. Six themes were seen to stand out: quality management; lean production system; human resource management in operations; production and process management; design, measurement and improvement of work; and measurement of performance and productivity.

La práctica de la Gestión de Operaciones en las organizaciones

SOBRE AS PERSPECTIVAS DA RESI E O CONTEÚDO DESTA EDIÇÃO

RESI is quickly becoming one of the major outlets for the publication of Information Systems research dveloped by authors that analyze IS from a Business Administration or from an Applied Computing perspective. Considering the increasing interest of the international community for the journal, we have estimulated our authors to submit papers in English or Spanish, in addition to Portuguese. This has also made it possible for foreign colleagues to colaborate with RESI. In the previous issue, we had contributions from researchers from Harvard, in the USA, and from the University of Zaragoza, in Spain. The current issue brings papers from researchers from the University of British Columbia and Texas A&M International University, as well as from many important Brazilian universities. RESI NO QUALIS

RESI was assessed for the first time by the Brazilian graduate agency in November 2010. Unfortunately, although the committee acknowledged its quality by granting it a B4 grade (jumbing two of the introductory levels), the editors (and we believe also our readers), believe that it deserves more than that. For that reason, we filed a reconsideration request in which we show that many of the authors that had papers published by RESI during the last three years only publish in A, B1 and B2 journals. RESI is the only exception because they probably believe it is as good as those or has the potential to qickly become so. The reconsideration request is available by clicking on , but it is, unfortunately, only available in Portuguese. We expect that the committee reviews the journal again and, hopefully, provide us with a better evaluation. If you have any comment about the quality of this journal that you wish to make public and you think that would provide us with further arguments to persuit with the attempt of getting a better assessment, please sent it to us and we will try to publish it in the journals cover, so that it can be seen by the evaluation committee. Customization in the manufacturing industry: survey results in southeastern Brazil

This paper discusses the advantage of using kanban, postponement, modularization, just-in-time, production sequencing, milk-run and cross-docking by companies that intend to increase their flexibility, agility and reliability in order to support web-based businesses. It presents the results of a survey carried out with more than 600 manufacturing companies in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and evaluates the changes that are taking place in operations, in order to make companies better suited to provide customized products, which are made to meet the individual requirements of each customer.

A Revista Eletronica de Sistemas de Informacao foi, ao longo de 2008, completamente migrada para a plataforma SEER - Open Journal Systems , desde a sua primeira edicao (historica!), publicada em 2002. Este processo foi agora concluido. A edicao n. 2 deste ano e a primeira cujos artigos foram submetidos, avaliados e editados pelo novo sistema, que traz grandes beneficios.
