Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to characterize and discuss the collaborative network formed by researchers that published about services in the top journals in Operations, Marketing, and Human Resources Management, and provide further comparison with major Service journals.Design/methodology/approach – The method used was designed documentary research using papers published in the top three relevant international journals specific to Operations, Marketing, and Human Resources from 1995 to 2010. Papers were selected using a search of the ABI/Inform Global (Proquest) database on the word “service” in the title, abstract, or keywords. Additionally, it included two major Service journals. A total of 1,481 papers and 2,457 authors composed the Social Network Analysis (SNA).Findings – The co‐authorship network revealed that the social structure is highly fragmented. However, its main component can be classified as “small world”, indicating that authors are connected to others outside their group through...

The importance of interaction between Operations Management (OM) and Human Behavior has been recently re-addressed. This paper introduced the Reasoned Action Theory suggested by Froehle and Roth (2004) to analyze Operational Capabilities exploring the suitability of this model in the context of OM. It also seeks to discuss the behavioral aspects of operational capabilities from the perspective of organizational routines. This theory was operationalized using Fishbein and Ajzen (F/A) behavioral model and a multi-case strategy was employed to analyze the Continuous Improvement (CI) capability. The results posit that the model explains partially the CI behavior in an operational context and some contingency variables might influence the general relations among the variables involved in the F/A model. Thus intention might not be the determinant variable of behavior in this context.

The management of a company ceases to be an art and becomes a science at the stage when one relates desired or undesired eftects of their respectives causes. This happens when one can understand the process that occurs in a company from the moment the inputs start to betransformed into sales. An embarassingly simple theory, recently developed, shows that it must not be assigned equal importance to each event; instead, one must profit from the fact that companys events are interrelated and this allows one to concentrate only on the most impacting ones over the global result.

The purpose of this article is to investigate the adoption of postponement in the business environment in Brazil and which factors favor its implementation. This study used the methodology of multi-case studies to investigate this phenomenon that is well known in the literature, but rare in real business life. Results suggest that the implementation of postponement requires not only the reconfiguration of the logistics systems, but changes in the relationship between members in the supply chain, investments in technology and the strategic vision of their leaders. New prerequisites were identified, suggesting that the existing framework for implementation of postponement needs to be extended. Companies should invest in change of products, processes, supply chain relationships and organization to enjoy the benefits of postponement.
