Ana Ludmila Freire Costa; Oswaldo Hajime Yamamoto

The assessment of scientific journals for the Qualis database has deep effects on the scientific community and raises questions on the evaluation method. A meta-analysis of this assessment of psychological journals is provided. Scientific editors of psychology journals (38 editors answered questionnaires applied by e-mail), librarians familiar with scientific journals assessment procedures (5 participants, semi-structured interviews) and referees of the CAPES/ANPEPP Commission (7 participants, open questions sent by e-mail) were consulted. The most important points include disagreement among different subjects involved on the suitability of such evaluation model to assess the editorial situation in Psychology and on adopted criteria; acknowledgement of improvements in scientific journals; the model fails to assess the journals quality. Since the assessment process is important to scientific progress, alternatives should be found to satisfy demands posited by the scientific community. The assessment of scientific journals for the Qualis database has deep effects on the scientific community and raises questions on the evaluation method.

The purpose of this paper is to contextualize the role played by Social Psychology in the framework of Brazilian undergraduate and graduate education. With respect to undergraduate degree programs, we analyzed the Degree Pedagogical Project (DPP). Regarding graduate degree programs, the organizational structure of Brazilian programs was analyzed. The study is divided into five parts. In the first part, we present a brief introduction on the status of higher education in Brazil. In the second part, we provide an equally brief overview of the status of undergraduate and graduate education in Psychology. Next, we approach the key topic of the paper, Social Psychology in undergraduate (third part) and graduate (fourth part) education. We conclude with some notes for discussion.

Awareness of the fact that multilingualism opens doors to new markets and new business opportunities is not an original phenomenon, but the various works produced with a view to its being acknowledged are still little publicized and granted little practical use also. Showing mastery of communicative skills in several foreign languages is always valuable for the market economy, not only in terms of sales and marketing, but also in order to reach new target groups and establish lasting strategic relationships. The purpose of this article is to provide a general overview of the studies carried out in this context, focusing in particular on aspects such as the increasingly obvious relationship between in force language practices of a diversified nature and the proper functioning of businesses. Equally important is the mastery of language skills, seen as an important driving force of cross-border cooperation, as well as the development of an emotional culture within the business world, propitious to the implementation of efficient language management strategies, which are clearly beneficial inasmuch as the market economy is concerned.

Ana Ludmila Freire Costa; Oswaldo Hajime Yamamoto

Social policies in Psychology postgraduate courses. It aims to discuss the contributions of Psychology postgraduate studies to understand “social policy”. 105 academic theses were analyzed among 824 defended in 2007/2009 triennium. Results point to the existence of the issue in a sprayed way, predominantly, albeit appears as a priority object for a limited set of researchers; majority of these can be characterized by fragility of the theoretical frameworks, in a strictly technical perspective; and the studies aim to improve specific social policies, without questioning why they need to be carried out. Psychological science can only contribute effectively to the society development if academic community promotes a structured articulation around the theme, deepens the theoretical debate and transforms the knowledge built into organized political practice.
