Política Social e Psicologia:Uma Trajetória de 25 Anos

Oswaldo Hajime Yamamoto; Isabel Fernandes de Oliveira

Based on the analysis of the evolution of Brazilian social policies after 1985, the present study examined the professional insertion process of psychologists into the field of social welfare. Public health and social assistance, which are the areas where the insertion of psychologists was more expressive and systematic in the last 25 years, were examined. The suitability of traditional models of professional practice in those new fields, issues regarding the academic training needed for working in those new areas, and the limits imposed by social policies for professional practice are discussed.

The present paper reports the second evaluation of Brazilian psychology journals carried out by the Editorial Committee CAPES-ANPEPP. The objectives of this evaluation, which started in 1999, were (a) to assess the journals Brazilian in which researchers affiliated to graduate courses in psychology usually publish, (b) to develop ways to support the best journals and (c) to establish parameters for the improvement of these journals. In the present assessment, 51 journals cited by the graduate programs reports in the period of 1999-2000 were evaluated. We used an Evaluation Form that consists of five sets of items (Normalization, Publication, Circulation, Authorship and Contents, and Editorial Management). The forms were completed by the editors and checked by the Committee. This instrument allowed to establish a ranking by circulation (National/Local) and quality (A/B/C) criteria. The main results showed that there was a remarkable improvement in the Brazilian journals compared to the first evaluation. Some questions related to the evaluation process itself and the challenges for the next steps are discussed.

50 anos de profissão: responsabilidade social ou projeto ético-político?

Oswaldo Hajime Yamamoto

This paper focuses one of the most controversial issues that accompany these first 50 years of legally regulated profession: the social impact of the profession of psychologist and its possibility to contribute to the process of social change. From data on the evolution of the profession in Brazil, we discuss the issue comparing the thesis of social impact, social responsibility and social commitment, concluding by questioning the viability of the proposition of an ethical-political project for Psychology. This paper focuses one of the most controversial issues that accompany these first 50 years of legally regulated profession: the social impact of the profession of psychologist and its possibility to contribute to the process of social change. Formação e prática comunitária do psicólogo no âmbito do "terceiro setor"

Ilana Lemos de Paiva; Oswaldo Hajime Yamamoto

Psychologist’s community training and practice at the “third sector”. The purpose of this study is to investigate the social practice of psychologists working at the “third sector”, focusing the strategies used to face the wounds of social issues and the professional training required for this practice. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with twenty psychologists working at the “third sector”. The interviews were analyzed in a qualitative way using a critical perspective derived from community psychology and psychosocial intervention. We suggest that psychologists should work proactively pursuing the people’s, group’s and communities’ development, organization and emancipation in order to promote real changes in their lives.

Oswaldo Hajime Yamamoto; Gilmara da S. Siqueira; Samantha C. da Costa Oliveira

The purpose of this work was to outline the status of Psychology in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, including the academic background and the professional activity of psychologists. A standard questionnaire was sent to each of the 448 psychologists living in the state and inscribed at the Conselho Regional de Psicologia (Regional Council of Psychology), 2nd Region. The final sample was 190 psychologists (42,4%). Among the results - confirming national and local data (Conselho Federal de Psicologia, 1988; Yamamoto, 1988) - are the prevalence of Health Psychology as the main area (67,5%), followed by Work (14,4%), Educational (10,1%) and others. In respect to gender, 88,4% of psychologists are females. Whereas this study is just an overview - part of a wider research project about the professional activities of psychologist in RN, some implications of these results are discussed.

Publicação e avaliação de periódicos científicos: paradoxos da avaliação qualis de psicologia

Ana Ludmila Freire Costa; Oswaldo Hajime Yamamoto

The assessment of scientific journals for the Qualis database has deep effects on the scientific community and raises questions on the evaluation method. A meta-analysis of this assessment of psychological journals is provided. Scientific editors of psychology journals (38 editors answered questionnaires applied by e-mail), librarians familiar with scientific journals assessment procedures (5 participants, semi-structured interviews) and referees of the CAPES/ANPEPP Commission (7 participants, open questions sent by e-mail) were consulted. The most important points include disagreement among different subjects involved on the suitability of such evaluation model to assess the editorial situation in Psychology and on adopted criteria; acknowledgement of improvements in scientific journals; the model fails to assess the journals quality. Since the assessment process is important to scientific progress, alternatives should be found to satisfy demands posited by the scientific community. The assessment of scientific journals for the Qualis database has deep effects on the scientific community and raises questions on the evaluation method. Projeto Pedagógico de Curso e formação do psicólogo: uma proposta de análise

Pablo de Sousa Seixas; Fellipe Coelho-Lima; Suzany Ludimila Gadelha e Silva; Oswaldo Hajime Yamamoto

In this text we propose an analysis strategy of Pedagogic Projects of Psychology Courses (PPC) in Brazil. The PPC, a complex and multideterminate document concerning both educational policies and course objectives, is an important tool in the study of psychology training. However, the literature has been unable to apply broad analytical strategies to a large number of cases. The present strategy was created based on legislation and literature regarding the training of psychologists in the country, as well as free reading and categorizations of different PPCs. Information in this document was grouped into three discussion blocks – theoretical, philosophical and pedagogical fundamentals; curricular and discipline issues; and professional practices –, with their respective analytical categories. This strategy is considered an inspiration to researchers who propose to investigate the education of psychologists or other university level professionals.
