Odair Diemer; Wilson Rogério Boscolo; A.a. Signor; Sidnei Klein; Armin Feiden

The observation of the effects, generally negatives, caused to the environment by human activities has led the creation of standards and basic conditions for that an enterprisecan take ownership of aspecificarea, aiming that does not cause significant changes to the environment, such as the preservation of the natural resources. In this context, the methods of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) had been formulated, which for excellence are dedicated to make predictions of the effects of a specific project to the short, medium and long term. The present work discusses the main methods of environmental impact assessment, In particular the methodologies: AD HOC, Checklist method, Interaction Matrices, Interaction Networks, Superposition of Letters, Simulation Models, Quantitative Methodologies and AMBITEC-AGRO. The technical information about each of the available methods can assist professionals in environmental impact assessment in the selection or fusion of these, in order to be compatible with the nature of the enterprise or be the causative factor in the environmental change that will be studied. The safe choice of the methodology to be applied allows a more accurate and reliable evaluation to mitigate the negative impacts in the environment.

This study verified the allelopathic influence of jack bean leaves ( Canavalia ensiformis ) on safflower cultures ( Carthamus tinctorius ), applied at different concentrations. Ten safflower genotypes were seeded in 20 containers, and a concentrate was prepared with jack bean leaves, crushed with water to make the extract. Five treatments were performed with four replicates, and this extract was applied at concentrations of 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. The parameters were germination speed, percentage of germination, dry and fresh mass, leaf and root size. The jack beans influenced each evaluated treatment differently, presenting, at some times, neutral characteristics, inhibitory characteristics, or stimulating characteristics, varying according to the percentage of extract that was applied.

Caroline Monique Tietz Soares; Armin Feiden; Sidnei G. Tavares

Anaerobic digestion is defined as a complex interaction of different microorganisms, which degrade the organic matter present to the final form of mainly methane and carbon dioxide. This process has been applied for the treatment of effluents in both developed and developing countries. However, its efficiency is affected by many factors ranging from the environmental and operating conditions of the system, the nature of the substrate, to the characteristics of the biodigester. Thus, the objective of the present study was to perform a literature review to evaluate the factors that influence the process of anaerobic digestion, since these can decrease and even interrupt biogas production.

ABSTRACT The paper monitored the furniture production process of a small furniture industry to access quality in order to find potential improvements to the production process. Data were collected over a 2-month period and statistically analysed. Results suggested that prior sanding of parts resulted in extensive reworking.

Energy production from biomass can contribute significantly, as well as to reduce carbon emissions into the atmosphere and also minimize water contamination problem in the case of waste from livestock and municipal solid waste. Faced with this problem, this study aimed to, monitor the amount of waste produced by animals on the farm (L/day) , and also the production of biomass from farm ( m³ / day). Analyses were performed on Unit Colombari Granja, located in the municipality of San Miguel-PR, west of Parana. Volume control was carried out by means of a volumetric measurement system, from water tank installed at the outlet of effluent from pig housing sheds. The data collection period was between the months of December 2011 and June 2012. During this period, the average volume of waste measured, corresponding to 82 pigs was approximately 723 liters of waste / day. It can be observed increased production waste in the months of December and January, reflecting higher consumption of water and in consequence the generation of waste

In Brazil, the stillage is mainly used in fertigation of sugarcane plantations, however, little is known about its effect on the nutritional supplementation and irrigation cultivation of linseed. Because of the shortage of work in the area, the present study aimed to evaluate the development of the culture of brown and golden linseed submitted to fertigation of stillage. The experiment was conducted in the field, at the Federal University of Parana in Palotina/PR in the agricultural year of 2013, on a eutrophic Red Latosol. The adopted lineation was completely randomized in split plots, where the plots were composed by the two varieties (brown and gold), and the sub-plots by the ratios (100% stillage; 50% stillage and 50% water; 100% control water). Fertigation of stillage in the culture of brown and golden linseed presents positive results on plant height, dry and fresh weight, capsules number and productivity; except for the number of branches (100% is higher). It was observed that between the two varieties, the golden linseed showed better development with the applied treatment.
