Nowadays, easy access, production and dissemination of information has been bringing about some repercussion in the scientific community and changed the structures of scientific production and dissemination. Improved opportunities of knowledge production in educational research in the country suggest the existence of a significant set of works revealing efforts to analyze and reflect on scientific production in this field. In this perspective, the integration of educational studies with studies in the field of information science are an important contribution in the task of identifying, selecting, collecting, systematizing, and structuring information systems that can widen up the field of studies in education. This article reports a research on scientific production in the field of history of education, consisting of scientific articles published in periodicals catalogued at SCIELO.

Assessment of a given periodical is basic to measuring the quality of research, as well as its reliability and seriousness. The objective of this article is to identify formal aspects to be improved and aspects that are already adequate to the formality required of the universe of scientific publications; to this end, an analysis methodology was applied to the periodicals to enable the identification of formal aspects of the publication. Four publications from the field of Special Education were evaluated, those being, Benjamin Constant, Revista Brasileira de Educacao Especial, Revista Educacao Especial and Espaco, in relation to the formal aspects of each periodical. The conclusions showed that the periodicals analyzed have already achieved some criteria, but there is still work to be done if they are to achieve all criteria described in the work.

Scientometrics | 2010

We proposed an original research design based on applied Scientometrics and frame analysis to assess how a citation was made to sustain arguments in documents on public health policies subjected to online public consultation from 2003 to 2008 in Brazil. So we built on citation studies to create a new scale to estimate why a scientific work was mentioned in our sample of 278 citations. We found that government branches make citations mainly to value their arguments, not to explain them, and that contributors mainly make citations in such a way that could discourage others from engaging in digital democracy.

This study presents formulas for detection of outliers for univariate data, taking into consideration the positive as well as the negative asymmetry of data. This new formula is based on the Exploratory Data Analysis and is simulated through the comparison of the outcome of the Exploratory Data Analysis found in statistical text books and statistical software. However, only normal or Gaussian distribution, i.e., symmetric or slightly asymmetric values, are applied. Real data published in two scientific papers on metrics are used for the simulation. For moderate or strong positive (negative) asymmetries, the new formulation detects a lower (higher) quantity of superior outliers. It is important to take into account the existence of outliers in bibliometric data; it is recommended to quantify the influence of outliers in statistical calculation, such as mean and standard deviation.

This is the first issue of the Universidade Federal de São Carlos’ Electronic Magazine of Education (Reveduc) in 2015. It consists of a set of fifteen texts of national authors and one international piece, four experiment reports and one essay. Three first texts approach the theme of indigenous education in different historical moments, and the self-concept of quilombolas. Adriane Pesovento’s article, Indians and education in colonial world: Western border of South America, discusses Portuguese colonization until the first half of the eighteenth century regarding “education” possibilities in Mato Grosso Captaincy, Brazil. The author takes on the perspective of coloniality of knowledge and the world-systems theory to analyze data available in Museu do Índio – National Foundation of the Indigenous (RJ). Micnéias Tatiana de Souza Lacerda Botelho and Darci Secchi’s text, Inclusion of indigenous students in the Nursing course of the UFMT Sinop: Achievements and challenges, discusses the Indigenous Inclusion Program (Proind) in Mato Grosso’s Federal University (UFMT), in the campus called Sinop. The piece reveals formal ingression and daily presence as renewed forms of explicit or disguised exclusion in classrooms and socialization spaces. The following text, Quilombo children’s selfconcept: Grandmothers’ and teachers’ voices, by Gisely Pereira Botega, applies an ethnographic approach to investigate the process of bringing up self-concepts in black quilombola children in the quilombo Toca de Santa Cruz, Paulo Lopes-SC. According to it, while grandmothers tend to point to a sense of value of children and school, teachers, on the other hand, emphasize the difficulties of learning and conflicts regarding the racial issue. Two articles deal with gender issues in school. Jane Soares de Almeida’s The construction of gender difference in schools: historical aspects (São Paulo, siglos XIX-XX) debates the discourses and practices of co-education of gender both in the end of the nineteenth century and beginning of twentieth century. It concludes that co-education in Brazil, as introduced by north-American missionaries did not have the same repercussion as in other countries; especially since it did not guarantee gender equity. The following text, Gender and sexual diversity: Analysis of Educational-Political Projects of state public schools in the city of Londrina/PR – High School, written by Janete Hruschka and Eliane Rose Maio, shows the lack of an operationalization path regarding gender issues and sexual diversity in the Political-Pedagogical projects and suggests a proposal based on state and national legislations. Three texts debate the theme of management in school, to be applied to the formation of preschool teachers and in the classroom. Management and participation: A study of the modes of organization of pedagogical work in two public schools in São Paulo, by Marieta de Oliveira Gouvêa Penna and Isabel Melero Bello, analyses the stage reports of a Pedagogy course, focusing on the organization of
