The authors make some theoretical considerations about support. They consider it one of the most efficient measures the nurse can use in her relationships with patient. They report the application of such measure in a process of student-patient therapeutic relationships.

In dealing with the patient, the nurse has always to have in mind that she is dealing with a human being. There are basic aspects in this personal relationship needed to the knowledge of the nurse to make this process therapeutic. Among these aspects we have acceptance, empaty and emotional involvement. These aspects we studied following bibliographical review, theorical conception and importance to the nurse-patient relationship. The scarcity of publications about personnel dimensioning in psychiatric nursing motivated the development of an Instrument to Classify the Level of Dependence in Psychiatric Nursing, the initial stage for the establishment of the ideal number of professionals in the nursing crew of the specialty. The purpose of this study was to look for the clinical validation through reliability and construct validity tests, as well as to verify its applicability in the management practice of nurses. Two samples were used, of which n = 40 pairs of instruments filled in Stage 1 of data collection and n = 100 instruments filled in Stage 3 of the study, with different statistical criteria being applied, among them the Kappa coefficient and the Spearman correlation. The Instrument to Classify the Level of Dependence in Psychiatric Nursing was considered reliable, with good indicators of agreement, and the construct was validated, determining the degree of dependence of mental disorder patients.A escassez de publicacoes a respeito de dimensionamento de pessoal na enfermagem psiquiatrica motivou o desenvolvimento de um Instrumento para Classificar o Nivel de Dependencia na Enfermagem Psiquiatrica, etapa inicial para o estabelecimento da quantidade necessaria de profissionais na Equipe de Enfermagem da especialidade. Os objetivos deste estudo buscaram a validacao clinica, por meio de testes de confiabilidade e validade do constructo, alem da verificacao de sua aplicabilidade na pratica gerencial do enfermeiro. Foram utilizadas duas amostras, sendo n=40 pares de instrumentos preenchidos na Fase 1 da coleta de dados e n=100 instrumentos preenchidos na Fase 3 do estudo, tendo sido aplicados diferentes criterios estatisticos, entre eles, o coeficiente Kappa e a correlacao de Spearman. O Instrumento para Classificar o Nivel de Dependencia na Enfermagem Psiquiatrica foi considerado confiavel com indices satisfatorios de concordância e o constructo foi validado, determinando o grau de dependencia do paciente portador de transtornos mentais.

As autoras, em sua atuacao na pratica, observaram nao encontrar incorporados as atividades desenvolvidas, resultados de pesquisa em Enfermagem Psiquiatrica. Este fato estimulou-as a realizar um estudo das pesquisas em Enfermagem Psiquiatrica desenvolvidas no Brasil, para verificacao do que tem sido estudado neste campo da Enfermagem. O levantamento dos dados foi feito a partir da analise dos trabalhos nacionais publicados. A finalidade deste estudo foi destacar os temas ja pesquisados e estimular as enfermeiras a incorporar em sua pratica, conhecimentos oriundos de pesquisas e realizar novas pesquisas que promovam a qualidade da assistencia de Enfermagem Psiquiatrica.

As observed by the Authors, the results of research in Psychiatric Nursing are not being utilized in the field. This fact stimulated then to survey the existing studies, in Brasil, in order to verify what has been investigated in the area. This study was carried out through the analysis fo the national nursing periodicals. Their aim is to bring to focus the research already done and to stimulate the nurses to undertake new studies

Despues de casi 30 anos de creacion del Area de Concentracion de Enfermeria Psiquiatrica, en el Programa de Postgrado de la Escuela de Enfermeria de la USP, es importante mirar la produccion cientifica generada que fundamenten las reflexiones sobre esta ensenanza. En este estudio descriptivo exploratorio, se uso como fuente los registros del Servicio de Postgrado, resumenes de tesis de maestria y doctorado; memorandums y oficios; los datos recolectados fueron analizados a la luz de las transformaciones ocurridas en la estructura que graduo a 60 alumnos, de los cuales 50 cursaron maestria y 10 doctorado y que vienen reestructurando sus disciplinas, lineas de investigacion y proyectos con el objetivo de atender a las evaluaciones internas y externas y a las directivas de las agencias de fomento del Pais. La produccion cientifica, actualmente, evidencia alineamiento con las directrices de la Reforma Psiquiatrica y tendencia a producir conocimientos a partir de las practicas concretas de los trabajadores en los campos de la asistencia, la gestion y la ensenanza de Salud Mental.

Its not uncommon to hear complaints about the lack of speciafication of nursing interventions in Mental Health. Now a-days, with the emphasis given to multiprofessional work systems in that area, those complaints have increasead due to the belief that the systems efficiency also depends on the knowledge that each professional has about his share. Literature and this belief support us in offering a proposal of nurses specific activities covering mental health approaches.
