Economic Policies to Improve the Current State of the Brazilian Economy

The Brazilian economy grew rapidly until the past few years. A downturn in commodities prices led to recession, despite demand-led policies. In early 2015, the president dropped demand-side policies in favor of market-led policies. They do not seem as yet to be benefiting the economy. These two authors assess the damage and propose policies that are still consistent with post-Keynesian views.

A TEORIA DA FIRMA PÓS-KEYNESIANA: UMA REVISÃO DOS ELEMENTOS RELEVANTES

This paper aims to rescue and condense microeconomic elements that can be found in the oeuvre of Keynes and the Post Keynesians. To do so, this paper undertakes a vast review of the literature on the theory of the firm in this theoretical perspective, based on the perception that this is not a standard research agenda in post Keynesian literature. Therefore, there are two gaps on the Post Keynesian theory: on the one hand, there is a lack regarding a consolidated and firm theory; on the other hand, updated references on the subject are not frequently seeing. The contribution of this review gathers and thickens the developments made on the subject.

POLÍTICA MACROPRUDENCIAL: UMA LEITURA KEYNESIANA

The economic crisis has brought to the fore the debate about the need for new economic policy instruments. In particular, it demands new ways to prevent financial imbalances that in their cyclical inflections, causes consequences in the economy. Hence, the so called macroprudential policy was fetched to the center of the debate. In this context, the aim of this work is to perform a reading of macroprudential policy in a Keynesian perspective. The underlying argument is that policy can be understood as essentially Keynesian, because it deals with the unstable character of the economic system and with the endogenous systemic risk. In addition, macroprudential are consistent with the modus operandi of Keynesian economic policies. Discussions and development of the literature on the subject have taken place under pragmatic bases that do not relate immediately to orthodox or heterodox schools of economics. Thus, although the literature on macroprudential, in terms of objectives, instruments, transmission channels is advanced, there is still a need for theoretical debate to substantiate the use of this policy.
