The knowledge of phenological stages and nut development of macadamia trees is essential for the adequate management of the plant, aiming pollination studies and controlled crossing between cultivars, needed in breeding programs. The phenological temporal patterns of seven macadamia cultivars selected at the Instituto Agronomico (IAC) were researched in the collection of cultivars. Small variations were verified among the initial phenological stages, from emission of the racemes up to the swollen flower bud stage. The complete cycle, from the flower bud emission to the fruit dropping took 253 days. The phenological stages - mature fruits and fruit dropping - occurred from the second tenth of February to the end of March.

THE PEACH MEADOW ORCHARD SYSTEM: X. BEHAVIOR OF CULTIVARS AND SELECTIONS ON SUMMER PRUNING AFTER HARVEST Eleven peach (Prunus persica L. Batsch) and three nectarine (P. persica L. Batsch, var. nucipersica) cultivars and selections, budded on Okinawa rootstocks, grown under the meadow orchard system at 4 m x 1.5 m spacing, were summer pruned after harvest for two years. The experimental area was located in Monte Alegre do Sul (22°41’S; 46°43’W) State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, with an average of chill accumulation of 40 h below 7 °C. From 1997 to 1998 cycles several physiological characteristics were recorded: trunk cross-sectional area, canopy volume, yield, fruits and mass per cm 2 of trunk. The best

Embryos of early peach and nectarine were cultured on Murashige and Skoog medium containing 3%sacarose,0.6%agar and(in mg/liter) 1 thiamin, 0.5 nicotinic acid, 100 inositol, 250 glycin, 500 glutamin, 250 asparagin, 0.1 giberelic acid, and BAP at concentrations of 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20µM. The frequency of growth was as high as 100% when BAP was included in the medium. The best development of the embryos occurred with BAP rates of 5 and 10µM. At these concentrations of BAP, the mean number of adventitious shoots was 4.5 per embryo. The vitrification ratio was higher at concentrations of 15 and 20µM. The inclusion of BAP, consistently reduced but not fully eliminated lhe rosette and dwarf appearances in vitroplantules.
