With the objective to evaluate the percentage of seedlings emergence and the emergence velocity index (EVI) of longan (Dimocarpos longan Lour) seeds, was carried out the present research, using plants that came from the Germplasm Bank of the Department of Vegetable Production of the Faculdade de Ciencias Agrarias e Veterinarias - UNESP - Campus of Jaboticabal, Sao Paulo state, Brazil. Immediately after the extraction, the seeds were washed, dryed and sowed in sand seed beds. The experimental delineation was entirely randomized, with three treatments, characterized by the size of the seeds: big, medium and small, determined by the medium weight of 50 seeds (in grams), being: 89; 80 and 65g respectively. The values of percentage of emergence were transformed in arc-sen square root (X / 100). The averages were compared by the test of Tukey, with 5% of probability. It was not observed significantly difference to the evaluated parameters, being obtained the values of the percentage of emergence of 97 to 91% and EVI of 0,651 to 0,680, showing that the size of the seed is not a factor to be considered for this specie.

This work had as objective to evaluate the effects of period and condition of storage on emergency of dovyalis seeds (Dovyalis caffra), a shrub fruitful species which seeds are recalcitrant. It was adopted a completely randomized design in factorial 3 x 5, corresponding to storage conditions: dry chamber storage (18±2oC and 60% of RH), environment condition and cold chamber storage (10±2oC and 70% of RH); and storage periods, as follows: 0, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days. It was observed data referring to emergency percentage (%E) and emergency velocity rate (EVR). The storage condition had no significant statistical effect on variables studied, differently from the storage period, where the higher %E and EVR were obtained at the 14th day of evaluation. At the 14th day %E and EVR decreased.

Phenology is a primary tool for inserting cultures in areas with different conditions from those in which they are adapted. The present study aimed to characterize phenological and productive ‘Triunfo’ pear under semiarid tropical conditions, in the Sao Francisco Valley, Northeast Brazil. The experiment was conducted from February 10th to July 2nd, 2012 in experimental orchard at theExperimental Station of Embrapa Semiarid Bebedouro, in Petrolina-PE, Brazil. Observations were madedaily, the dormant buds to fruit ripening and evaluated the following production parameters: i) ripening:the relation between number of flowers and fruits (%), ii) the number of fruits per plant; iii) productionof fruits per plant (kg) and iv) productivity (t / ha). The phenological cycle of Triumph pear lasted 144 days, the fruit set obtained was 11.43%, number of fruits per plant was 162, yield per plant was 26.34 kg andproductivity of 26.33 t ha-1. Based on the results we found the possibility of pear fruit production in semi-arid tropical condition.

This work aimed to monthly evaluate the influence of seasons of the year on ‘Hass’ and ‘Fortuna’ avocado grafting, during twelve months. Plants from the Active Germplasm Bank of Universidade Estadual Paulista, Jaboticabal (SP), Brazil were studied. The experimental design used was completely randomized, in a factorial arrangement 2 x 12 (`Hass` and `Fortuna’ and the months) between March 2005 and February 2006, with 10 unities per plat, repeated four times. The evaluations, 90 days after the beginning of the experiment, were realated to the percentage, total development of the combinations (graft-scion), number of buds, diameters above, below and at the grafting. The most indicated season for grafting is, in general, between November and December for both avocado cultivars.

In Brazil there are several native fruitful with commercial potential, specially in Amazon which is the origin of bacuripari species. Thus it was carried out a research work aiming to evaluate the viability of cutting process on bacuripari cloning, using indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) under conditions of intermittent mist, on FCAV/UNESP, Jaboticabal County, Brazil. The experimental design was completely randomized with 5 treatments, characterized by IBA concentrations (0; 1,000; 3,000; 5,000 and 7,000 mg.L-1), with 4 repetitions and 10 cuttings per parcel. It was evaluated the percentage of cuttings rooted, the average number of leaves and the length of roots. The use of IBA had no influence on percentage of cuttings rooted.
