The current context of the construction of dams in Brazil shows several controversies, mainly lined up with the existing contradiction between the official speech focused on the benefits resulting from such enterprises and the important, serious and irreversible socio environmental impacts caused by the construction of dams, which are attested by the experience of those people who pass through such transformations. In this sense, the present article proposes to analyze and discuss the interfaces between economic development, environment and health in the context of the construction of dams in Brazil.

This paper deals with the issue of suicide in Rio Grande do Sul/Brazil, considering the advance of capitalism in rural areas. This kind of progress has brought new lifestyles that, in turn, has favored some social pathologies and, among these, the self-destruction through suicide. Among violences that we are exposed every day, the violence against ourselves is one of the most serious, since it reveals the deleterious society in which we live, as well as their point of breakdown. In this regard, the capital has invested to consolidate the end of the family farming, either through cooperation with the industry and its perverse management methods and through pluriactivity, contemporary expression of flexibility and, moreover, of precariousness of work in rural areas.

This literature review deals with death and the changes in its concept and meanings over time, aiming to relate this to the different social organizations and issues that involve individuality and human finitude. It intends to arouse the reflection about this theme respected by all of us, and related to our own contingency. In this sense, the article provides several perspectives through different authors voices, seeking to understand how we arrived at this contemporary stage where death must be forgotten at any cost. It is a forbidden subject even inevitably being part of our daily lives, and its guardians must increasingly insure the non-participation and non-involvement of the people. Therefore, understanding the past stages of death, from its proximity to its banishment from the social life, is a necessary condition to analyzing our own end, and the end of our own individuality.
