Safety of nursing staff and determinants of adherence to personal protective equipment

A qualitative study conducted in a teaching hospital with 15 nursing professionals. Attempted to analyze the reasons, attitudes and beliefs of nursing staff regarding adherence to personal protective equipment. Data were collected through focus groups, analyzed by the method of interpretation of meanings, considering Rosenstocks model of health beliefs as a reference framework. Data revealed two themes: Occupational safety and Interpersonal Relationship. We identified several barriers that interfere in matters of safety and personal protective equipment, such as communication, work overload, physical structure, accessibility of protective equipment and organizational and management aspects. Adherence to personal protective equipment is determined by the context experienced in the workplace, as well as by individual values and beliefs, but the decision to use the personal protective equipment is individual.Estudio cualitativo realizado en un hospital universitario con 15 profesionales de enfermeria. Objetivo analizar las razones, actitudes y creencias de los trabajadores de enfermeria referentes a la adhesion a los equipamientos de proteccion individual. Los datos fueron recolectados por medio de grupo focal, analizados por el metodo de interpretacion de sentidos, considerando el referencial del modelo de creencias sobre salud de Rosenstock. De los datos surgieron dos categorias tematicas, Seguridad en el trabajo y Relaciones Interpersonales. Identificamos varias barreras que interfieren en las cuestiones de seguridad y proteccion individual como comunicacion, sobrecarga de trabajo, estructura fisica, accesibilidad a los equipamientos de proteccion y aspectos organizacionales y administrativos. The setting of research production by nursing and management graduate programs in Brazil

This documental, descriptive study was performed using a quantitative approach with the objective to characterize the production by nursing graduates in Brazil in the 2007-2009 triennium, with emphasis on nursing management. Data was collected from the CAPES database, which allows access to the abstracts of theses and dissertations. The material was analyzed and categorized according to areas/fields and the respective lines of research, as defined in Nursing. The overall production analysis was descriptive and analytical in the field of organization, namely management. The results showed that, compared to previous studies, production underwent some changes in the triennium, with an increase in the area of health care, maintenance in the organizational area, and decrease in the professional area. Professional Master's degree in Nursing: knowledge production and challenges

OBJETIVO: analisar a producao do conhecimento gerada pelos programas de mestrado profissional em enfermagem e refletir sobre suas perspectivas para a area. METODO: estudo descritivo e analitico. Foram incluidos dados das dissertacoes de tres instituicoes de ensino que titularam alunos em programas de mestrado profissional em enfermagem entre 2006 e 2012. RESULTADOS: a maioria dos 127 trabalhos de conclusao analisados se desenvolveu no contexto hospitalar; houve tendencia de concentracao nas areas organizacional e assistencial, nas linhas de pesquisa processo de cuidar e gerenciamento e predominio de estudos qualitativos. Ha diversidade de produtos resultantes dos trabalhos de conclusao: avaliacao de servicos/programas de saude e geracao de processos, protocolos assistenciais ou de ensino. CONCLUSAO: os programas de mestrado profissional em enfermagem, em fase de consolidacao, tem producao recente, em desenvolvimento, havendo lacuna na geracao de tecnologias duras e inovacao. CONCLUSION: los programas de maestria profesional en Enfermeria, en fase de consolidacion, tiene produccion reciente, en vias de desarrollo, con laguna en la generacion de tecnologias duras e innovacion. Nursing actions for the prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia

Objective:To identify prevention actions of the nursing team related to ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP). Method: A cross-sectional, observational study conducted in an Intensive Care Unit of a teaching hospital in Goiania/GO. Results:Hand hygiene occurred, mainly, after the procedures and most of care, such as elevating the head-of-bed, bronchial and oral hygiene, diet administration, also handlingmechanical ventilator circuits were not adequate and if experienced groups such as the one in the present study are not following the recommendations emerging from evidence, it may indicate that, for some reason, the learning is not being significant. Conclusion: Most recommendedmeasures to reduce VAP related to positioning the head-of-bed, bronchial and oral hygiene, administration of diet and handling mechanical ventilator circuit were not followed.OBJETIVOS: identificar las acciones del equipo de enfermeria relacionadas a la profilaxis de la pneumonia asociada a la ventilacion mecanica (PAV). METODO: estudio transversal, observacional realizado en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos de un hospital docente de Goiânia/GO. RESULTADOS: La higiene de las manos ocurrio, sobre todo, despues de los procedimientos y la mayoria de los cuidados como la elevacion de la cabecera, higiene bronquial y bucal, administracion de la dieta y tambien de los cuidados con los circuitos del ventilador mecanico no fueron adecuados y, si los grupos con experiencia como el del presente estudio, no estan siguiendo las recomendaciones oriundas de las evidencias, puede ser indicio de que, por alguna razon, el aprendizaje no esta siendo significativo. CONCLUSION: La mayoria de las medidas recomendadas para reducir la PAV relacionadas a la posicion de la cabecera de la cama, a la higiene bronquial y bucal, a la administracion de la dieta y al manejo de los circuitos del ventilador mecânico, no fueron tomados en cuenta.

Forças impulsoras e restritivas para trabalho em equipe em um Centro de Material e Esterilização de hospital escola

Estudo transversal descritivo exploratorio que objetivou analisar forcas impulsoras e restritivas para trabalho em equipe em um Centro de Material e Esterilizacao (CME) de um hospital escola, a partir de aproximacao da Teoria de Campo de Kurt Lewin, em Goiânia, Goias. Participaram 35 profissionais, que responderam a um questionario autoaplicavel, baseado na referida teoria, que preve que situacoes grupais sao permeadas por forcas que mobilizam positiva ou negativamente seus movimentos e dizem respeito ao envolvimento do sujeito (Eu), a interacao do grupo (Outro) e ao ambiente de trabalho (Ambiente). Foi utilizada analise de conteudo no tratamento dos dados distribuidos nas dimensoes predefinidas. Os resultados consolidaram 1.990 registros, categorizados como maioria (59,3%) de forcas impulsoras, predominantes na dimensao Eu. Nas dimensoes Outro e Ambiente observou-se equilibrio entre as forcas. O delineamento do campo de forcas permitiu uma visao objetiva, concreta das limitacoes, potenciais da equipe estudada e possibilidades para promover mudancas.
