In this paper we describe the profile of senior undergraduates attending courses in Chemistry, Biological Sciences and Psychology in a Brazilian public university. We propose to study the influence of socio-demographic and academic variables () on their career. The 140 participants answered a questionnaire on socio-demographic variables: parental education, family income, social-economical level and type of Elementary and High School (public or private) they attend. The academic variables (marks) were obtained from the university files. The data about career paths were obtained from interviews with six participants. The data were analyzed both quantitatively, according to unvaried models – the Square Q Test, the non-parametrical test: Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney and qualitatively, according to Bardin (1977). Both national and international theoretical frameworks underpinned the discussion. The study reveals that parental education, socio-economical level and type of Elementary and High School attended are directly related to their success in the university entrance tests and career choice.

Having in view the importance of family, chiefly parents, in adolescents’ vocational development, as seen in the literature, this study aimed at contributing with a systematization of production of knowledge about the influence of parents on their adolescent children’s career choice. This is an illustrative, not representative study. The corpus for analysis constituted of papers, books, theses and dissertations found in electronic data bases and university libraries. The publications were systematized according to the prevailing theoretical approaches in the analyzed texts. The results showed that, whatever the approaches are, parental influence occurs continuously in the interaction processes within family groups. Despite this observation, a lack of studies about interventions carried out directly with parents of adolescents in career-choice processes was verified to exist in the Brazilian context.

This paper described the history and the principal characteristics of the Berufsbilder Test (BBT), systematizing the scientific researches developed in Brazil with this projective technique of interests clarification. This test was created in Switzerland by Martin Achtnich in the 1970s and was introduced in Brazil in 1982 by Andre Jacquemin, who adapted it to the Brazilian social-cultural context. He developed the BBT-Br in both the masculine and the feminine version. This paper also presented the Brazilian researches that used it with their different objectives and age groups, demonstrating its validity and utility as a helpful instrument in the vocational guidance process, personal selection and career reorientation. The present critical review of national literature about the BBT aimed at offering theoretical support for its users and to stimulate considerations and new researches with this technique.

Evaluation of career intervention strategies is considered relevant in international literature. This study aimed at evaluating career interventions carried out at a clinic-service delivered by a psychology course at a Brazilian state university. Seventy-seven former clients, aged between 17-24 years old, with prevalence of females, and attended in groups, participated in this study. The intervention evaluation was based on French, Hiebert and Bezanzons model, which contains three dimensions of analysis (input, processes and output). The questionnaire, forwarded by post, consisted of open and closed questions that contemplated three dimensions: inputs, processes and outcomes. The quantitative data were analyzed by means of descriptive statistics, and the qualitative data by means of content analysis. In summary, the former clients evaluated the service conditions positively and attributed positive value to the activities and themes developed in the interventions. The need for more career information and service expansion were suggested.

A Informacao Profissional, um dos componentes do processo de Orientacao Profissional Vocacional ou para a Carreira, visa fornecer dados da realidade do mundo ocupacional de forma a auxiliar pessoas em processos de tomada de decisao. Este estudo objetiva sistematizar e analisar a producao do conhecimento sobre a tematica Informacao Profissional com base na revisao da literatura. Os dados foram organizados em tres categorias, com base em Robinson e colaboradores: (1) modelos de recursos impressos, (2) programas e sistemas de informacao e (3) sites na internet. Os resultados mostram que as novas Tecnologias da Informacao e Comunicacao (TICs) aliadas as estrategias tradicionais representam inumeras oportunidades de desenvolvimento da Informacao Profissional, com desafios e limites a serem enfrentados em um campo que nao para de evoluir. O estudo evidencia o papel da Informacao Profissional, com seus limites e possibilidades, no contexto brasileiro bem como nos paises desenvolvidos.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to develop a subjective multidimensional measure of early career success during university-to-work transition. Design/methodology/approach – The construct of university-to-work success (UWS) was defined in terms of intrinsic and extrinsic career outcomes, and a three-stage study was conducted to create a new scale. Findings – A preliminary set of items was developed and tested by judges. Results showed the items had good content validity. Factor analyses indicated a four-factor structure and a second-order model with subscales to assess: career insertion and satisfaction, confidence in career future, income and financial independence, and adaptation to work. Third, the authors sought to confirm the hypothesized model examining the comparative fit of the scale and two alternative models. Este estudo objetivou avaliar processos e resultados de uma intervencao em orientacao profissional desenvolvida em um servico-escola de uma universidade publica na opiniao de egressos. Participaram 33 ex-estagiarios, no periodo de 2001-2006, que responderam a um questionario de avaliacao enviado por correio eletronico. O questionario foi construido com base em um sistema focalizando tres dimensoes de analise (inputs, processes, outputs) com questoes estruturadas e espacos para comentarios. Os dados foram tratados quantitativamente, por meio da estatistica descritiva, e qualitativamente, por meio da analise de conteudo. Os resultados mostraram que as condicoes do servico foram consideradas adequadas, os fatores processuais facilitadores para a tomada de decisao dos ex-usuarios e os temas trabalhados pertinentes para a construcao do projeto de vida dos ex-usuarios. Da analise qualitativa dos comentarios, foram sugeridas propostas para o aprimoramento das praticas do servico, do instrumento de pesquisa e da formacao do estagiario.

A revista recebeu63 manuscritos, 29 foram aprovados, 14 recusados,sete devolvidos aos autores por nao se enquadraremas normas de publicacao, sendo que 13 aindaencontravam-se em processo editorial na ocasiao daredacao deste relatorio. Abstract In 2012, the Quotas Law was approved, determining that Brazilian federal institutions reserve 50% of vacancies for students from public, black and indigenous schools. This state-of-the-art study aims to systematize publications on quotas in a decade in Brazil. Three electronic databases (Scopus / Elsevier, CAPES Journals and Google Scholar) were searched, using the descriptors: quotas; university; University quotas; Brazil. There were 109 publications, organized in two periods: 2003 to 2008 (N = 48), and 2009 to 2013 (N = 61). The thematic categories were: “theoretical and legal crash” (70.6%); “Impacts of quotas” (70.6%); “Perspectives” (36.7%); “Criteria” (17.4%) and “Comparisons between countries” (14.7%). The results show that in the first period, the questions about the constitutionality of the Quotas are emphasized and in the second the effects of the Brazilian experience in the society. At the end, topics relevant to the evolution of the discussion about the theme are proposed.

This study’s aim is to describe the expectations of undergraduate students concerning the definition of success on the transition fromO objetivo deste estudo foi descrever as expectativas de universitariosformandos sobre o sucesso na transicao universidade-trabalho e os fatoresque contribuem para o sucesso. A amostra foi composta por 46 estudantes doultimo ano da graduacao dos cursos de Psicologia (N=21) e Administracao(N=25). Como instrumento, foi aplicado um questionario contendo dadossocioeducacionais, alem de tres perguntas abertas sobre sucesso na transicaouniversidade-trabalho. Os dados foram analisados por meio da analise deconteudo. Os resultados refletem uma multiplicidade de expectativas ede sentidos atribuidos ao sucesso na transicao universidade-trabalho, quefoi descrito tanto por indicadores objetivos quanto subjetivos. Ainda, osgraduandos atribuem o sucesso na transicao como sendo decorrentes tantode caracteristicas individuais quanto dos contextos social, educacional epolitico. Confirma-se, portanto, a tendencia das teorias de carreira, quediscutem a necessidade de incluir nos modelos explicativos da Psicologiavocacional tanto variaveis individuais quanto contextuais.
